They did back-pedal and say that they meant that the original camera negative they would be transferring from was uncut - but like, duh, obviously...

It's the way the law regarding it is worded. If the cockfight was staged for the film, it's animal cruelty and has to be cut. If they went somewhere and they're was a cockfight taking place anyway and they just filmed it, hey presto, no problem, it can stay in the film. It's a funny old law.

One that's pretty hard to prove or disprove as well, especially on a low budget 30+ year old film.

Things are getting ridiculous on 88s page with the usual mob accusing them of everything from covering things up to being outright deceitful and people making the regular round of (empty) threats of going down the Consumer rights not a described route and demanding to have their name taken off the credits.

some people really need to build a bridge and get over it

It's whether the BBFC would accept that the cockfight was not staged by the filmmakers and was something taking place and happened to be filmed, something which would be acceptable under the guidelines and the Cinematograph (Animals) Act. Short of a letter from Michele Massimo Tarantini to say what happened on the film set, similar to what happened with Dario Argento and the Arrow release of Deep Red because of the lizard, the cockfighting was always going to be cut.

I don't think so, but a scorpion is burnt to death. However, I think that was something which Peckinpah (or a crew member) saw the natives doing and decided to film it.

That's the easiest question of all. The Internet is full of plebs.

Yup, there seems to be a colony of faceless, spineless twats who come out of the wood work as soon as the next faux outrage appears.

The funniest thing is they wouldn't say boo to a goose in real life.

Rant over. :)
