i only just caught up with Demons of the Punjab last night. i really enjoyed the story. if you had taken away the Doctor and the shoe-horned in sci-fi elements, i would have happily enjoyed a subtitled version of this at my local arthouse cinema.

but that's the point isn't it? it's not really what i'm tuning into DW for. i'm sure more talented writers could have dreamed up a totally sci-fi setting for the story and handled the subject as an allegory, like Genesis of the Daleks was a rise of the nazis allegory. here i'll do it for them - the Doctor and her companions land on an alien world where there lives two different species. this world has been conquered by aliens who are now on the point of withdrawing but don't want to leave the two species fighting among themselves and therefore propose segregating them on different parts of the planet. some are for this and some want to live together - the Doctor needs to bring the sides together and avoid a bloodbath - not hard is it?

A promising start and an episode that could have slotted into Sylvester McCoy's first season, with some nice nods to past stories (The first acknowledgement that the show has over fifty years of history i think) as well as Monsters Inc, went down hill a bit due to the story line plodding along and yet another weak villain.

Think how much better this would have been had a Nestene Consciousness lurked in the basement utilising Kerblam and it's bubblewrap deliveries for it's next invasion.

After the last few weeks decided not to watch it, and watched the time monster instead. Might watch it later this week on iPlayer

Things i'm learning about Doctor Who series 11

1 - Amy Pond made for a more convincing police woman than Yaz.

at least this week's episode had a sci-fi setting with a villain to be thwarted... but c'mon, the Janitor, for Pete's Sake!?!
