Extant

Sadly Season 2 (as the series was cancelled by CBS :( ) as this is a really good sci fi series.

Also been watching a lot of Hammer film documentaries in particular House of Horror:Memories of Bray Studios

I got the complete set of The Likely Lads cheap a while back. Watched a couple of eps of the 60s version, didn't think much to it to be honest. However I watched the first ep of the 70s sequel Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? today and really enjoyed that one.

As for Jekyll and Hyde... made it to episode 4 before I gave up. Some interesting elements, but an awful lot of BS along with it. :wise::nono::confused:

ARROW S6 EP13 "The Devil's Greatest Trick"

In the aftermath of last weeks episode, Dinah tracks down Black Siren.
Meanwhile, Team Arrow try to stop Cayden James from detonating a bomb over the city by providing evidence that Green Arrow did not kill his son.

Lots going on in this episode and it never lets up. Terrific episode.

I watched the Arrow season 4 / Flash season 2 crossover the other night.

Talk about disappointing. I prefer the regular episodes in these seasons.

trebor8273 10th February 2018 03:30 PM

watched part 1 of season 5 of Vikings, waiting for the second part of the season too release on Amazon.

also watched the latest 3 episodes of star trek discovery, excellent stuff with lots of unexpected twists and reveals, episode 13 is one of the best episodes of all the series and easily makes it in my top ten.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 11th February 2018 08:44 AM

I finished watching the fourth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine which was great fun and very cleverly written. There are many lines which I try to remember and use in everyday conversation and end up forgetting!

I also finished Hammer House of Horror, a wonderful series with some great crimes against fashion, memorable and surprising story lines, and something I will watch more frequently than previously.

The most recent series of Inside No. 9 ended with a brilliant take on/adaptation of The Monkey's Paw including six really innovative and engaging stories, all written and directed with real flair and skill.

I began the first series of Columbo last night, though the boxset strangely starts with the third and fourth episodes, the first of which was directed by Steven Spielberg!

I’ve tried a few times to watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine and have yet to finish an episode, I really don’t get why people like it

Comedy is a very subjective thing which is why some people love something like Mrs Brown's Boys, which others despise. Some will repeatedly watch Father Ted which other people will find it as funny as listening to the Today programme.

I have sat through many episodes, only because of Terry Crews [emoji7]

I don't mind Mrs Brown boys , its like Marmite you either like it or you don't, and started rewatching Father ted because Sam never seen lot , seen 3 episodes and she loving it .
End of the day each to their own on any TV shows and films, Ive never seen the appeal of friends or Star trek. Like one of my friend doesn't see the appeal of Peter Jacksons early films like Braindead and Bad taste and thinks their amongst the worst films he ever seen .

Been watching season 5 of Brooklyn 99, also watched episode 2 and 3 of altered carbon as well as first 3 episodes of black lighting the latest DC show but only like the others this more adult in nature and comes of as DC/Warner's attempt at a Netflix/marvel show.

Been watching season one of Frasier, brilliant , great writing and characters and those characters play perfectly off each other.

keirarts 13th February 2018 04:51 PM

damnation.

On Netflix. Set around the Labour movement's of 30s America with unionising farmers battling big money. The seriesincorporates a lot of details of the period not often covered in other shows. Given how politically neutered from the books Altered Carbon was it was a genuine surprise to see this on the same platform. Even if the political stuff isn't your cup of tea the shows got a lot of elements of the mythic western and plenty of bloodshed.

altered carbon

Speaking of which. As a cyberpunk action series this ones highly entertaining. If you've read the books however it's like the hearts been ripped right out of it.

bleakshaun 16th February 2018 10:23 AM

Watched all 3 episodes of Dead of Night and now watching series 1 of Inside No 9

I forgot to mention I watched the BBC miniseries The Dark Angel featuring Peter O'Toole, Jane Lapotaire and Beatie Edne, based on the novel Uncle Silas by J. Sheridan Le Fanu. Although I haven't read the book on which it's based, it's a really interesting and involving piece of Gothic television with great performances by all the main actors – I don't think Peter O'Toole has ever been more sinister, Lapotaire is wonderfully wicked as Madame de la Rougierre and Edne, who I only know from In the Name of the Father, is superb. I didn't intend to, but I found it was so good that I watched for three hours in one go! When Network next have a sale, I highly recommend it.

Excellent isn't it. Glad you enjoyed it, Nos. Lapotaire is so creepy.

Beatie Edney is one of the main cast members in Poldark. I'd never have known until i saw her name in the credits.

I haven't seen any incarnation of Poldark, so my only point of reference for Edney is In the Name of the Father. She is beautiful in The Dark Angel, so it's no wonder you didn't recognise her in Poldark if she looks as old and haggard as in the photo!

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW S3 EP10 'Daddy Darhkest'

The Legends new episodes start. A good start it is in a quite creepy episode.
Some of the demonic possession scenes would not look out of place in a horror movie. John Constantine is on hand to help.

BLACK LIGHTNING S1 EP5 "And Then the Devil Brought the Plague: The Book of Green Light"

Jefferson's daughter Anissa researches enhanced power teenagers that went missing and goes out at night in a new costume.
This is great, another step in the direction of becoming super hero 'THUNDER'.

Just watched the first episode of Stranger Things last night, which everyone seems to have been going on about the last couple of years. And... really enjoyed it, actually. Intriguing story so far, good characters/actors, nice 80s vibe... I am suitably hooked (so far, at least).

It's on my (very long) watchlist and I hope to watch both seasons soon, possibly this month.

Been rewatching this recently because Sam never seen it.
Just last episode to watch before starting on season 2

trebor8273 19th February 2018 06:26 PM

been watching Hell on wheels its a western about the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad anyone who liked shows like deadwood will like this. Most of the cast are excellent and one of the stand outs is the highly underrated Colm Meaney best knowing for playing Chief O'Brien in deep space nine and The Commitments and the brilliant the van.

Demdike@Cult Labs 20th February 2018 05:32 PM

I watched the final four episodes of season four of Arrow last night.

I'm not just saying this but taken as a 160 minute piece this was far superior to all the recent DC films and most of Marvel's offerings as well.

Character driven, action packed, exciting and beautifully acted too. Highly recommended.

Interestingly Neal McDonough who plays Damien Dharke, one of the great DC villains also is a member of SHIELD in Marvel's universe.

Green Arrow, John Constantine and Black Canary in the fifth episode Haunted.

I've been watching it three years now (saw the first two series in year one). Although i want to watch it i'll probably go and get series 5 to watch next January as i've so much to watch including season two of Supergirl and also the second series of The Flash where i'm up to episode 11.

I really liked Justin Hartley as Green Arrow in Smallville and wasn't convinced by Stephen Amell at first but he soon won me over.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 20th February 2018 06:25 PM

I've recently watched the first series and first episode of the second series of DAMNED, the Channel 4 'comedy' series. I use the word 'comedy' advisedly because it is a series with some funny moments but it appears to portray the world of social work in such a vérité manner that there are frequent downbeat scenes.

In that respect it is very reminiscent of the other shows starring Jo Brand: GETTING ON and GOING FORWARD, about nursing and community care work, respectively, using observational humour to show the issues facing people doing crucial work in today's society, often for low pay and with insufficient resources.

If you haven't seen any of them, they are all highly recommended.

Aside from that, I'm halfway through the second series of COLUMBO and I'm really enjoying working my way through the large box set which I bought some time ago. The plotting is very clever and the guest stars, from Ida Lupino to Leslie Nielsen, John Cassavetes to Ray Milland (twice so far) and Honor Blackman make it even more interesting to watch.

Yep, that's how long it had been sitting unopened on the floor under a table!

After this, there's only the rest of Thriller, all of Armchair Thriller, Prisoner and Tales of the Unexpected to watch!

On the whole DCs TV stuff is superior to there movie's. I know TV and movies are different but why not get some of the people from the shows to do the films, can't be any worse than most of the films.

Agreed. A tv series is always going to have it's quieter moments where the cast get to act rather than just be heroic. The cast of shows like Arrow, Supergirl and The Flash are far superior to the cast of the DC films.

Have you seen Supergirl the series. Even Ally McBeal is brilliant in that.

Yes I have, Cat was one of my favourite characters in the show. I think most of the problems with the films lie with Zack Snyder, look at wonder woman which he had less too do with , which is the best of the bunch by far.

LOVELY BUT LETHAL, the first episode from the third season of COLUMBO, is awesome. Following on from a guest appearance by Leonard Nimoy as a murderous surgeon in the second season (there were also appearances from Anne Baxter, Laurence Harvey and Martin Landau), this begins with Vera Miles (Psycho) killing Martin Sheen (Apocalypse Now) with a microscope. With Vincent Price playing Miles' employer, it's a top episode.

I'm now onto the next episode, ANY OLD PORT IN A STORM, in which Donald Pleasance has just killed a fellow wine connoisseur with a telephone and will try to escape the wiles of Lt. Columbo.
