SHARPE'S WATERLOO (1997)

1815. War again as Napoleon returns from Elba.
Sharpe finds himself a Lieutenant colonel at Waterloo under the orders of Prince William Of Orange. Sharpe is in command at the farmhouse of La Haye Sainte.
Both he and Harper hope to finally see Napoleon.

Great end to the original series. The battle at La Haye Sainte includes the real life moments when a French drummer boy was spared and a moment from the classic painting where the gates are held shut.

Excellent series.

I rewatched the two India set ones a couple of months ago and did enjoy them. In particular Sharpe's Peril which felt more like a Cornwell adaptation even if it isn't

Hammer House of Horror: The Mark Of Satan:

Edwyn who is a morgue assistant believes evil forces are around him when he starts seeing the Number 9 around him.

This was slow start into the decent in to madness and paranoia starts taking over the mind of a man who he thinks is being taken over by evil spirits. Peter McErny plays Edwyn tries to focus on life with his over bearing mother and Young Tennent (Georgina Hale) but everywhere he goes he sees the Number 9, even the priest tells him of the Devil's Mark. This was a good psychological programme as it does play on the mind of the viewer as you seem to think it goes one way then in to another way that is very much like a bad trip.

Hammer House Of Horror: Witching Time:

Workaholic music composer David is at his cottage when a power cut happens, as he checks the stables he finds a young woman who calls herself Lucinda Jessup, who was born on the farm and condemned to death for being a witch. As things take a turn David's wife Mary tries to fight to save David from Lucinda.

This was a decent episode of witchcraft and some of the old days of witch hunting and how to prove who was a witch and who wasn't as it is mentioned and the burning on the stake. Jon Finch plays the workaholic composer who's friend Charles (Ian McCulloch) thinks he is working too hard and drinking too much that he may be hallucinating with mixture of drink and tablets. Prunella Gee plays Mary who has to fight with Lucinda in order to save David. Patricia Quinn plays Lucinda and can be very quite creepy in this, but will admit she does have a good chest on her, there is some good make-up and effects put to good use in this.

Hammer House Of Horror: Visitors From The Grave.

Penny, a mentally unstable wife of Harry kills a intruder, the intruder was a business rival of Harry, they plot to hide the evidence and lie to the police, then Penny starts seeing the man and believes she is being haunted.

Kathryn Leigh Scott takes on the lead role in this episode as the mentally unstable housewife Penny, who kills the intruder and is told to cover it up by husband Simon MacCorkindale. Sadly I felt this one was watchable but not really that played out well, it seemed to drag on a bit, it is like the actors weren't really that interested or just wanted to do it for a laugh and the ending was a bit predictable.

A family on holiday pick up a mysterious hitch-hiker who attacks the driver and the car rolls over. In a hospital the wife is told her husband is alive but has damaged his throat and can't speak, she is also asked to identify the attacker who died but he mysteriously looks like her husband and her paranoia becomes apparent as to is dead and who is alive.

If Rutger Hauer didn't put you off picking up hitch-hikers well this episode might, I wouldn't go as far as to this one what a bit of a mind screw but certainly had me on the edge of my seat anyway. Anna Calder-Marshall plays the wife who thinks she has brought a killer home and her husband is dead, she does give a great performance as whether she is paranoid or not and do doppelgangers actually exist.

My favourite episode from the series. Really creepy.

Hammer House Of Horror: Rude Awakening.

An estate agent seems to be living the same dream over and begins to wonder what is a dream and what is reality.

This is almost like Deja Vu, except Denholm Elliot seems to have fantasies about his secretary being in different costumes to punk rocker, school girl and a blonde bombshell. This was a interesting story as it got more mind playing as to what day is he actually on and what is real. Even though it is Hammer unfortunately we really don't see the main house much but would imagine it will be a Gothic type mansion. Lucy Gutteridge must have enjoyed getting dressed up as every dream sequence she was in different clothing and styles and James Laurenson playing different characters but always saying the same line at the end.

Hammer House Of Horror: Charlie Boy.

After the death of his Uncle, Graham inherits the art collection while his wife Sarah picks a Voodoo Doll which she names Charlie Boy. Shortly afterwards mysterious deaths start happening Graham tries to find a way to save himself and Sarah from a terrible fate.

This was a great tale that deals with almost same theme from Trilogy of Terror Zuni Doll segment except in this one the doll doesn't come to life and doesn't have a spear. Leigh Lawson and Angela Bruce play the couple who seemed to be happy with the inheritance and the doll which they seem to joke about it being a curse on others. This seemed to have a good amount of suspense and terror mixed in which made it more enjoyable and Marius Goring as the old antique dealer who offers some advice.

Hammer House Of Horror: Children Of The Full Moon.

A married couple travelling in the countryside have car trouble and head towards a house, the housekeeper offers them shelter and introduces the couple to the children that live there unaware of the dark secret they keep.

So far we have had a haunted house, voodoo doll, weird dreams that become a nightmare, ghosts, witches, paranoia and now we have werewolves in the form of children. while watching this all I could think of, Stick to the road, don't go to the woods and stay away from the house and you'll be fine. This kind of reminded me of the phrase used in the T.V. series Chernobyl..."Not Great but Not Terrible". It seemed to go a decent way at the start but eventually became too predictable, It's like having a bad dream, wakening up and still in the bad dream. Christopher Cazenove and Celia Gregory play the happy couple who stumble upon the house. Diana Dors plays the sweet loving housekeeper who knows the secret about the children and eventually helps out the one who needs her help.

I love Hammer house of horror, personally i think the hit to miss ratio was good on this series, all of them are watchable and some are really outstanding. Such a good series.

Unfortunately only got 4 more episodes to go and that's it, at the moment next plan is Christmas movies and Armchair Thriller tv series.
