A good start to the season, but it would have been better had the Army not been involved in the outcome. Something more sinister would've been good.

In the novelisation Serling added a detail that injects a bit more of the unknown into it. When Mike goes into the movie theatre he picks up a movie ticket. When he's getting stretchered out of the booth at the end, he reaches into his pocket and it's still there. Doo doo doo do doo doo doo do |

Something that impresses immediately when watching the pilot is the high level of craftsmanship and artistry there is. You get a real sense that this is a show made by people who care. The Black and White cinematography and use of Mise en scène are as good as anything you'll see in a cinematic release from that period.

I love the ending for this one. It completely comes out of left-field and I can only imagine what it must have been like watching it for the first time with your family in the late '50s. It must have blown their minds! |

Just watched the unaired pilot version of this, along with Serling's pitch to the sponsors. It was longer, so I'm not sure what the differences are between this and the cut down version. I really enjoyed it. I'm very impressed with the extras too. Love the Serling college lecture! It would be great if he was there to talk about each episode! It's amazing how candid he was about the episode's shortcomings. When the guy is in the cinema and he runs into the mirror, I practically jumped out of my chair. |
