Carnival Of Souls is an odd one - I hated it the first time I saw it, but then gave it another go and did a complete volte-face, realising it was a masterpiece!

I fell in love with it straight away.

Maybe I wasn't in the right mindset when I first saw it, I dunno. Some films need you to be in the right "headspace" for you to get them and I think that Carnival of Souls and Footprints are in that category. They're not easy films to watch and you need to engage with them to get the most out.

That said you've made me think of the excellent French flick Les revenants (2004) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0378661/ - really must give that a watch again some time. |

Watched this last night. It is awesome. It's one of those rare movies that manages to be hypnotic, almost dreamlike. It should be boring, but the way each scene is shot and the way it's put together is amazing. If this movie was directed by a famous arthouse director it would be viewed as a classic piece of European cinema. 10 out of 10. Last edited by re.form; 22nd April 2010 at 12:19 AM. |

Interesting thread, and a very long one... I've thought about buying Footprints for a while now, but have heard some talks about an annoying kind of "intermittent telecine wobble" in the film print? How bad is it and what's the reason for this? Cheers! |

There quite possibly is one, but I can't say I noticed it when I last saw the film, so it isn't that big an issue.
