Yet in his review of The Devil Rides Out BR he doesn't mention the redone effects at all.Did he actually watch it again or was he sent an early untampered version (Can't see that being the case) ?.BTW there's an error on his letters pages.Reprinting the same letters twice.

I did wonder about those redone effects in The Devil Rides Out and it is a little suspicious that he didn't comment on them. Still, to negatively criticise Curse of Frankenstein he must have watched it (I hope)! I totally agree with his comments about it being "soft and grainy" a lot of the time but think he's exaggerating a bit by saying that "it doesn't look to me like this has been restored at all"...

Still, I'm not that impressed with the transfer, I just hope its due to the state of the print (it is one of the oldest of the restored Hammer films) and not laziness on the part of the restoration team. I'm confident its the former but still its no where near as impressive as some of the StudioCanal transfers (although thank god there's no DNR!).

I must admit I wasn't that impressed with TCOF's transfer to begin with but I thought it got better as it went on, or maybe I just got used to it. Still a quality release and glad to have it. Still need to get TDRO.

I was very excited to discover this release. I love COF, but hadn't seen it for about 8 years. The last time was when the NFT (now BFI) included it in their History of Horror season in 2004 (I can't remember what aspect ratio it was projected at. Sorry. That's alzheimers for you).

So in spite of the negative press and palavar about aspect ratios, I bought it as soon as I could. I watched the academy ratio BR first. Whilst the general picture quality isn't as wonderful as perhaps we'd like, it still looked good for it's age, and of course, it's a bloody wonderful film.

Watched a couple of the extras, which are good, but yet to hear the commentary, which I understand to be outstanding.

Watched Curse Of Frankenstein last night on Blu............and all i can say is WTF it is probably the worst Blu Ray release for PQ so far. At most it approached SD DVD sometimes not even that.

According to Amazon, a 2-disc DVD edition is getting released in July. Good for those who don't use Blu-ray I guess.

But considering how cheap the combo set is why not get it just to be future proof as blu ray players are getting cheaper and are a lot cheaper than DVD players at same point in there life.

It seems to be listed as a DVD rather than a Blu though...
