For somebody who had the misfortune to come to the genre at the very start of what's now widely referred to as "the dire years in horror" (the late 80's-mid 90's), the nougthies were a great time to finally catch some hard hitting horror regularly on the big theater screen.
I didn't bother much with the hatred for "modern horror" which spilled into many www discussions in the course of the last 10 years, as for every uninspired Hollywood rehash there were a dozen of foreign genre flicks to discover, coming straight out of corners I wouldn't have ever suspected of producing notable horror in the first place, with the Norwegians and, particularly, the French (among many others) churming out their fair share of genre pictures during the 00s- also thanks to the mainstream embracing "strong horror", thus making it bankable also for smaller countires and indie filmmakers to give their scare-tactics a try.
A healthy decade indeed!

My faves from the last 10 years in no particular order:

1) Martyrs
2) Haute Tension
3) Inside
4) Wolf Creek
5) Eden Lake
6) 28 Days Later
7) Cold Prey 2
8) Let the Right One In
9) Saw
10) "The Last House on the Left" (2009)

Well, sure the remake and sequel thing was depressing and the worst horror films that come to mind from the decade were remakes, sequels and franchises from Hollywood for the most part (the insultingly dreadful Dawn Of The Dead remake, the embarrassing Final Destination yawnfests, the appalling Saw sequels and so on).

But on the other hand there were far more fine films. The return of creature features (so many wonderful crocodile films!!! Just a pity Cloverfield was so bloody awful), the emergence of the new Scandanavian, French and Spanish waves which has brought us some of the best horror in many years, the continued quality of Oriental horror films - especially Korea, a revival of 70s style hard human horror with the likes of Wolf Creek and Eden Lake, even some decent Hollywood stuff!!! And Alexandre Aja achieved that rarest of things - not once but twice - the good remake!

Overall, I think it has been a fine, fine decade for horror.

The second one was ok...but the first and third are some of my favorites.

I also am glad to see everyone loved Let the Right One In. I thought it was great! I hadn't gotten around to buying it (I saw it on Netflix first) and one of my customers had a copy of the Blu-Ray he was going to toss out! So I scored it for free. =)

Totally forgot about those two. Both brilliant films and Dog Soldiers probably the best of the British ones I've seen.

Another one I forgot about is [B]Shutter[B]. Definitely one of the best of the Asian horrors from the decade.

I third Dog Soldiers. Love that movie. Also...someone mentioned Dagon...which of course I love.

Some others:
Ravenous
Dead and Breakfast
Anything by Guillermo del Toro; Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, The Orphanage, Blade 2.
The Grindhouse movies, most notably Death Proof...but I'm a sucker for Kurt Russell.
Slither
The Underworld movies.
Undead...if only for the scene where the little girl ripped out the dude's heart.
The Signal

I know I have so many more I loved...but that's just a bit from off my shelf.

This will rapidly turn into the 'films I forgot about' thread for me.

Three and Three Extremes, in particular Dumplings, which has forever put me off steamed Dumplings now... two great antologies!

Forgot about Three Extremes too...

Have you seen the feature length Dumplings, blob? Very good, imo.
