 The Exterminator - optically censored?
Just finished watching the Arrow BD of The Exterminator and noticed some optical blurring. At the 1 hour 4 minute mark, when Ginty has the pimp tied to a mattress and is about to torch him. On the wall, in the room, one of the photos has been optically blurred. Yet, oddly, it's unblurred on the doco on the making of the film and although it shows a man's genitals, I can't understand why it would be censored on the mian feature. Any ideas, anyone?

I know, it's quite odd and I'm wondering why it was done. If it's on the Synapse disc, then it was obviously they who did the optical blurring - have they ever stated why?

Aha. According to the commentary it was an MPAA requirement. Strange as it's supposed to be the Unrated cut and the pics on the wall later aren't biurred. Maybe it's been culled from different sources to get as complete a version as possible overall.

An MPAA requirement? That's certainly a weird explanation, but I don't dispute that it's true. Shame, as it's nearly an uncensored presentation of the film, but not quite.

The photo's on the wall in the next scene where the two are talking are quite clear which is odd. At least on the Synergy dvd.

I've heard of this before. A most odd phenomena, why the MPAA would have issues with male genitalia in a film featuring slow motion decapitation, burning alive and brutal murders I have no idea and why on an unrated cut...the Japanese policy of censoring pubes is even more bizzare.
