I adore Inferno, and actually place it higher than Suspiria.
Though I still think Tenebrae is my favourite, so I'd place it as my third after Tenebrae and Profondo Ross; followed by Suspiria, Bird with the Cystal Plummage and Opera.

What do you mean by JUST the cover?

If you had a nuce Japanese laserdisc (they were the thing to have at the time), signed by William Peter Blatty, Linda Blair and William Friedkin would you want Kermode to scrawl his name on there aswell? It's got **** all to do with him, sign his BFI Exorcist book by all means but not the film itself!

Tenebrae and Deep Red are also my two favourites but I don't know which one I like more.

I reckon Inferno is a decent film - a good second rung Argento. I'd place it alongside Tenebrae, Phenomena and Opera but below Suspiria, Bird and Deep Red.

That sums it up for me too - good second rung, don't go back to it much but still like it. Tenebre is my top Argento too - love that film. Looking forward to this Inferno release a lot though.

Yes it was a daft cut really on top of a film that had already received huge pre-edits. All of the human violence would be waived today with just the animal cruelty cuts remaining.

As an Argentio movie it is a bit rubbish but as a showcase for Bava's special effects it is dazzling.

Now I am extremely jealous -- I would love to have that laserdisc signed by Blatty, Blair and Friedkin, even if I couldn't play it! Does that have The Fear of God documentary in which Kermode actually appears? He oddly seems to have been cut out of his own documentary on the R2 DVD; I hope this is remedied on the forthcoming Blu-ray release.

Perhaps I should chastise my cat for it's hunting instinct?

Nonsense, simply nonsense. The logical conclusion of not allowing a cat eating a mouse to be seen is not allowing images of cattle or people eating meat on screen.

That's it, I'm in dire need of an Argento marathon so I can definitively rank his films in order. Reading all these titles makes me realise how long it's been since I've seen some of them and they all need re-watching before Inferno comes out in all its high definition glory.
