Not really. Anyone who's seen the French version prefers it, those that haven't, like the Arrow

I've noticed now Arrow releases go something like this -

Title announced - excitement, closely followed by trepidtaion
First reviews - overwhelmly positive.
Second reviews - more indepth, problems pointed out.

Then either
Another version of the movie is found and comparisons made = Arrow found wanting

Or

No other version is available so everyone waits for the Blue Underground version.

Arrows response = first - hey look at the extras, man! And some posters. Four, that's FOUR covers!
Second - Hmm, not sure what went wrong with it. Hey, we didn't do the master, it was done in Italy/by the cinematographer/we had to take what we were given/ we didnt know the intro was supposed to be sepia.

(All meant in fun)

I only said that to cover up what I'd originally written

Some like the Arrow release, some don't. That's fine. I've defended the Arrow release because I'm not that picky about these things, but I really don't care what version people like best - after all it's their choice what they spend their money on. I just like watching these threads get out of hand, as they always do.

And once again...NO ONE HAS DIED-YOU'VE NOT BEEN TOLD YOU HAVE A MONTH TO LIVE-YOU NOT BEEN EVICTED/DIVORCED/MOLESTED/MUGGED OR ANYTHING ELSE WHICH MAY CONTEMPLATE SUICIDE......
It's a DVD release-don't like it-don't buy it....
Buy it don't like it-trade it or sell it...
Buy it and like it-fine you're happy....
Don't buy it-buy another version-fine.No-one is executed on here for liking an alternative version.....

You know I'd love to see someone like Argento's reaction to the poison that spouts out of some peoples faces over something as trivial as a blu ray release.....

Sad.****ing sad.
Sam likes this.

Isn't it the Blu-ray people are having problems with?

In the Dark Side of Porn episode on snuff films Eli Roth seriously believed Deodato used real cannibals in Cannibal Holocaust. Take from that what you will but it certainly doesn't give him much credibility!

He does come out with some mad things. I remember reading an interview where he said HOSTEL was inspired by a real life web site he found where you could pay to murder someone.

He comes out with some silly things during his commentary for BLOODSUCKING FREAKS.

hmmm...... well the french version looks better, but i'm not buying it.

what fool decided burned on subtitles was a good idea? Ruins the disc.

Nah, i'm getting the arrow edition, because while 'not as good' in inverted commas this paticular arrow disc seems more in the inferno, bay of blood and phenomena tradition.

Decent looking, perfectly serviceable, better than my anchor bay disc and no effing subtitles across the screen.

I understood the complaints over bird, and the uproar over the first beyond discs but this seems to have slipped back into uber pedantry. One day a better version may be released, (not the BU release, they share the prints with arrow) but i'm a dvd/blu-ray collector and i'm used to going back and re-buying the same films over and over, nothing new there.

Got this on my wish list, i'm buying it payday.

Forced subtitles are a requirement of the licensor.

I disagree. If it's a good film, you'll stop noticing the subs after three minutes. *

Greetings!

PS: I would not buy the french disc for other reasons: a) no poster, b) crappy artwork (why the do they have to use pseudo-modern artwork for a release of an old flick?), and c) no overwhelming improvement over the Arrow release in terms of PQ (I think both look quite alright). Just my two cents.

PPS:*= That does not mean that I support forced subs - I just don't care about them.
