SHAM024 - Beast in Space

The R18 rating was introduced exclusively for sexual works only (ie hardcore pornography). The Beast In Space wouldn't have been eligible for it (just as Caligula wasn't).

As they'd received the XXX version the only choice Shameless had would have been to submit it for an 18 where it would possibly have received cuts. It's been a while since I last saw the XXX print so I can't remember how explicit or problematic it would have been. Instead they seem to have toned it down themselves and made a composite print.

Could it really be more explicit than Caligula? If it is, then the version with minor cuts will still be pretty full on.

Yes it would have been interesting to see what the BBFC would have made of the strong version.

There's only one sex scene in the xxx version anyways - no big loss!

I have the XXX version but it will take ages to find it (as usual).

When compared to Caligula (namely the final orgy scene) how explicit do you find the scene Phil?

I don´t really see the point in releasing films that have some cuts in it, no matter how minor they are, since there are LOTS of uncut versions of it around the world that could easily be imported. One coming out here in sweden soon.

Better to release movies that can get through FULLY uncut.
Sorry, but no matter how cool the shameless covers are, I wouldn´t buy an cut version of it.

It isn't cut. It's basically a longer version of the US unrated version.

I don't mind if there is a slight cut to an orgy seen if it means that I can easily see a film that I otherwise would not have even heard of.

I have e-mailed the BBFC about the slightly strange position where films can be too sexually explicit for an 18 certificate, but not explicit enough (i.e. pornography) for an R18. Seems barmy.

The people who filmed Caligula knew how to film sex, Beast in Space has an insert that more than fits that title, no skill what-so ever, just point and shoot the genitals!
