Do you read a lot of books, Susan, with you having no tv to watch?

My main problem is lack of light! We tend not to put lights on if we can avoid it (as a money-saving exercise) and so I am a slave to it being bright enough to read by natural means - something that is severely lacking at the moment! My pile of 'books-to-read' is almost as big as my pile of 'new-to-me-DVDs / Blu-Rays-to-watch' and my pile of 'new-to-me-CD's-to-listen-to'!!

Kindle is good for night time reading. They don’t hurt your eyes like a phone or tablet screen but they have a nice warm glow which makes them easy to read in the dark! Paperbacks are particularly annoying to read by lamp light because the shadows from the curve of the pages. I find I constantly have to move the book to read it well enough.

The Art of War More of a pamphlet than a book. Never the less it remains the best mixture of military tactics plus philosophical teachings that ive ever read. This guide can be used for any situation. Masterpiece. |

I'm currently half way through my third book of the year Alistair MacLean's Where Eagles Dare. Other than the character of Lieutenant Schaffer (I'm not really hearing or seeing Clint Eastwood in the dialogue) the movie is a very faithful adaptation. |

I finished Where Eagles Dare tonight. Read it in five sittings. There was no rush as the film was so faithful to the novel that i kinda' knew what was coming next. The main differences were that the German commanders round the table weren't killed in the book, just drugged senseless and left locked up, and the escape from the village in the bus. In the book it comes up against a Tiger Tank which fires a shell straight through a window and out the other side without exploding, as Tiger shells are designed to penetrate armour before exploding and two bus windows really isn't enough to set one off. |
