A boy's adventure film that featured a closeup of a decapitated head, severed arms & legs, several uses of 'shit', a man spitting blood, and the graphic bloody killing of a boy on a raft.

Not quite Roy Of The Rovers.

I did - 4 times! Twice on its own and twice as a double-feature with Jaws 2. It's a classic and I adore it.

Anyone else remember those Saturday double-bills at the flicks? Those were the days.

Also has some pretty strong nudity for a PG film! Ha. That skinny dipping scene leaves little to the imagination if i'm not mistaken.

My family and I (I was 9) hadn't long moved to Cornwall when Jaws was released. The impact it had on holidaymakers here was absolutely amazing. Suddenly literally everywhere was selling shark teeth necklaces, imitation fins etc. Amazing times.

For definite. The Spy Who Loved Me/Return Of The Pink Panther and Diamonds Are Forever/Gold being the most memorable.

Midnight Express and Taxi Driver was an interesting double bill.

The strangest one I saw was The Last Hunter and a German softcore flick called Close Encounters Of A Handyman.

Well matched up eh Vince?
Perhaps the projectionist was stoned!

I knew the projectionist (the son of the cinema owner), so yes he probably was. He was a huge Pink Floyd fan, and premiered The Wall at such an ear-splitting level that it felt like it was in Sensurround. He also deliberately turned up the volume during the final 'jump' shot in Friday The 13th and I swear it caused underwear overload for most of the audience.

Those were the days.

Going back to The Last Hunter, do you think this is worth an 18 today? Watched it again recently and it's quite tame now. The (non-explicit) attempted rape being the strongest scene.

I reckon it'd pass 15 now.

Sounds like a good projectionist that guy.

Tyler Durden has learned a lot from him.....

My old friend Clint. His dad committed suicide in the cinema during the video boom in the 80's (the cinema takings plummeted like a stone back then as we all remember) and he never got over it. The cinema closed barely 12 months later.

He got sozzled on scrumpy once and announced over the tannoy "Would the owner of car registration plate ZH456 (etc) please get it off my foot". Absolutely hysterical.
