Never seen the film but come on,it's almost 40yrs old!.Surely it can't be that bad.But then again,we are talking about a group of middle/upper class people who think that us lower common folk should be kept in our place and not subjected to anything that they themselves believe would influence our obviously corruptable inferior minds

Fear not, this is standard practice for titles previously cut - it usually means it has to be OKd for waiving of previous cuts.

Yeah I'm all for being wrong. I just am a little nervous given the mini press furore, stuff in thde commons and so on. Politically it can't hurt the BBFC to be seen to be keeping a tough line... on very old films!

We've not worked on any title as much as this one so any cutting will be a real blow.

It does sound a little worrying (and also slightly unusual) but Marc's hopefully right about it. Flavia The Heretic was cut by almost a minute more a few years earlier but got through ok now, and the cuts to Flavia were far more graphic.

What were the previous cuts, Vince? Was it part of a rape scene? Never seen the film myself but the BBFC cutting sexual violence today from a film that was made in the 60's would be unusual, in fact it might be the only one...if it were to happen.

I'm not 100% sure but I think they were to remove some photographic shots of women being tortured. Apparently the 2nd Salvation video (the reissue) was mistakenly released uncut.
