This weeks new arrivals.

First three from the Network sale, the others from Music Magpie.

Been wanting the feature length Halloween doc for years that is on disc two of this release, and i used to own the Kim Newman BFI dvd but gave it away to a mate.

Amazon tried to tempt me with the complete Dexter 1-8 for £18. Having never seen an episode and feeling tight, i saw that Dexter series 1-3 was available for the pricely sum of £3, so pulled the trigger on that. Another 30 odd hours of tv to watch. D'oh.

Excellent film with some grisly murders. Tom Savini's best work in my opinion.

Hope you enjoy it.

I believe that because it’s not anamorphic widescreen you can fit more time for the same quality because it uses less pixels!

It's 4:3 that probably explains it.

Got The Stand today as well. Had a quick scan through it and it looks pretty good. My only gripe is that I was hoping it would've included the opening & closing credits on all the episodes, but it just the same version as the old Artisan dvd, full opening credits on episode 1, closing credits on episode 4, and episode title cards at the beginning of 2, 3 & 4.

Still hoping some day to get the original version of the 1990 IT miniseries. They just cut out the whole opening scenes from episode 2 with the credits for the vhs/dvd/blu-ray.

g053584398 7th October 2019 09:29 PM

I got the mini-series Shogun on Blu-ray dirt cheap recently and the opening credits had been removed from all but the first episode, the end credits had been removed from all but the final episode and the individual episodes had been re-edited in order to make fewer longer episodes. The series looked great and I enjoyed it very much indeed, but things like that make a release less enjoyable for me.

I know what you mean. I think they did the same with the first (maybe second as well) season of Tales from the Crypt on dvd. Only the first episode on each disc had the opening sequence and the last episode had the closing credits (if I recall).

I can see the point as i always fast forward through opening credits after the first episode unless i love the credits / music (Hi Smallville and Angel) but i also want the option of fast forwarding and not have it taken away from me by studio execs that think they know best.

Picked up a Cloverfield blu-ray from Cex in exchange for a one pound Cex voucher (that voucher has been living in my wallet for quite some time). Since the film has intentional video glitches, it's gonna be pretty much impossible to determine whether or not my secondhand copy is in perfect working order. :) btw Kinda funny that a film like this was released on 4K UHD format.

Not films, we been into town and a shop near us is having a sale, it's one of those type shops that sells different / unusual stuff or good quality items but as usual are on the bit dear / expensive side, we be moving soon and saw these paintings and thought they be lovely in the new hallway, can't see them perfectly because they've been wrapped, cost £200 each tho.

The other picture shows some other stuff we've bought from there in the past, just to indicate type stuff it sells.

No, just the light on my phone kicked off, for all those who can't see it clearly they are silverhide, battle for Algiers and what we do in the shadows.

Just bought these from the local Air Ambulance shop for a combined total of £3.

The Alien blu set which looks far worse in the photo than it does in the hand was £2. The lady gave me The Ghost and the Darkness which is region one because i helped her go through some new in dvds sorting out which were copies and which weren't. To her going through dvds is hard work, to me it's fun. Never seen Arrested Development but three series for a quid was worth a go.

Justin101 10th October 2019 04:43 PM

Not seen this for years, and keep meaning to, Demdike watched it the other night and I went on Amazon and bought the bluray. I have since found that apparantly the sound isn't brilliant, going to watch it in about 45 minutes anyway :)

I hope the sound is okay seeing as it's a great metal soundtrack. My dvd which is nothing special picture wise has a very good sound.

Have you seen In a Lonely Place before, Nos?

No two ways about it. It's a stone cold classic!

Glory is also approaching a five star film as well.

I think I've seen both films before – I've definitely seen Glory, which I thought was very powerful – but, even though the plot seems familiar, I don't know when or how I would have seen In a Lonely Place.
