Also, I never grow tired of the Utena walking up the stairway to the arena. I really love how liberal it sometimes is with sexuality. The lesbianism, the visceral nature to Touga, the clealry violent sexual relationship between Saionji and Anthy and how her abscense make's him realise how much he appreciated her. It has a heart to it I find is lacking in most Shojo (or even in anime in general) and the endings is one of the few that genuinly made me sad, Cowboy Bebop like. The style is amongst my favourate also, the use of art house overlays, with revolving roses and the shaded flashbacks with abstract colours (Utena and Micki's past, Juri's (frankly heart breaking) own experiences) and I always enjoyed 'The Shadow Girls' sub storys, sometimes more than the actual episode (6...seriously, WTF!). It's not perfect but it is my current addiction, say's something for my taste!
I'm sorry to hear about your redundancy Keirarts, I was fortunate enough to find a similare job a week before I ended my last before christmas. It's not an easy place to be. |
