Annoyingly all UK releases of this have been heavily pre-edited. Peculiarly the second Prism DVD featured a print that was more heavily cut than the previous one (ie the old VHS version). The BBFC would have no problems at all with it. :ohwell:

Part II was the only one ever (ridiculously) cut by the BBFC and is now restored intact.

Stephen@Cult Labs 9th February 2010 11:01 PM

Where did you get it and how much did it cost Bizarre?

Got it for £50 inc. postage off eBay mate.

The seller I bought it from is very quick and very reliable, so I'm hoping it will be waiting for me when I get home! :thumb:

I probably could of got it slightly cheaper if I'd shopped around but I wanted it now, dammit! ;)

Gojirosan 10th February 2010 03:26 PM

Met Loops today and readed a couple of things for The Eye and Blood Feast...then to the bargain shops where PoundWorld yielded I Am A Camera (on a label amusingly called "Wienerworld Classic"), a double sided cheapie of The Independent/Wet Hot American Summer (yes, I have a thing for Janeane Garofalo, OK?), Mystery Men and The New Guy.

They also had the 2 disc edition on Contender of Crying Fist which I thought I'd put in the basket, but obviously didn't :( . Might nip back in tomorrow!

When I got home the postie had delivered The Orphanage, The Tomb Of Ligiea and Masque Of The Red Death!

'Twas a good day...

The picture on Downtown in the 2nd Franco box is terrible, taken from an old full screen VHS. All the other film's have excellent widescreen transfers though (although Downtown Heat is non-anamorphic), and are uncut.

Latest buys:

Attachment 4539 Attachment 4540

I already have other versions of ZFE but I liked the cover on this one.

bdc 11th February 2010 06:46 PM

Nice one Loops and thanks for the info!
Is there a better version of Downtown available that you know of?
Maybe the ABC dvd?

That's the Dragon ZFE dvd right?

The swiss ABC dvd is meant to be better. It's non-anamorphic widescreen and has some interviews.

Yes, that is the Dragon ZFE.

Pigasus 11th February 2010 09:03 PM

Just ordered The Broken... I'm told it's rubbish, but I'll watch any film starring Lena Headey.

Q. about Last House On The Left remake...
Does anyone know if there's any difference between the unrated US R1 DVD and the "extended cut" R2 DVD..? I noticed that BBFC site says it's uncut but just wondering if the UK version was pre-cut before submission to BBFC.

Think they're the same. Certainly no BBFC cuts. The UK cinema version was the R-rated US version.

Differences between the unrated & R-rated versions here.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 11th February 2010 10:35 PM

None.
Spent too much in the last 2 weeks.:(

I agree, that's as good as The Children.

THE SIGNAL is a low-budget sci-fi 'zombie' anthology with some technical faults and it lacks the intelligence of Videodrome or the surrealist imagination of Kairo, but it's a vicious, gripping, psycho chiller and a must–see for any fans of those films.

Hopefully your Hatchet for the Honeymoon will be the corrected dvd that includes the narration on the Bava doc.

I enjoyed The Signal, except for the middle section in which the film decided it no longer wanted to be serious and became a comedy... then it decided it was going to be a serious horror film again! Bah. Damn good indie horror fun though, despite the huge flaw.

I picked up The Mist and Bejamin Button yesterday.

Why did Fincher do Benjamin?! Why?!

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 15th February 2010 06:51 PM

Yeah,why?

One of those one's when it was being watched,I departed for upstairs for some good old violenza!

Philleh 15th February 2010 06:57 PM

It was so droll!! It looked very nice indeed, but did he not bother reading the script? It's like Forest Gump 2!! Ha ha.

Ugh, hopefully he'll redeem himself with his next project... hopefully!

I had to re-watch Seven straight after to cool down!

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 15th February 2010 07:04 PM

If I wanted that much sugar,I'd drink a case of Coke .....

Yeah FIGHT CLUB or SEVEN could be the perfect antidote!

Seven ain't out on Blu yet is it?

And where's the bloody ALIEN series?

Stephen@Cult Labs 15th February 2010 07:13 PM

Will do.I'll be giving Tombs a spin later tonight.:thumb:

Stephen@Cult Labs 15th February 2010 07:17 PM

Wow,I thought Benjamin Button was a fantastic film.

The Alien films will be out later this year Reaps.Sigourney Weaver recorded some commentaries last year and apparently there's already been at least 1 copy of the blu-ray set pressed.Sigourney gave it to her daughter for christmas!

42ndStreetFreak 15th February 2010 07:34 PM

"Ride the High Country" - Peckinpah

"Jack Says"

"Jack Said"

"Porkys/Porkys' 2" - Upgrade from TV dupe.

"Werewolf of London" - Universal classic.

"Tony" - New Brit shocker about a serial killer.
No idea about it, but it looks good and UK horror cinema is on a fine roll at the moment.

"Grindhouse Trailer Classics 2"

DVD-R's of;

"I Start Counting" -
Amazingly obscure British sex killer on the loose thriller from 1969 starring an astonishingly young looking Jenny Agutter (just off "The Railway Children") Who even at 16/17 and playing a school girl was not afraid to strip down to her underwear.

Also stars Simon Ward ("Holocaust 2000"), Bryan Marshall ( "The Long Good Friday"), Lewis Fiander ("Could you Kill a Child"), Charles Lloyd Pack ("Frankenstein & the Monster from Hell").

"Corruption"/"Cash on Demand"

Two hard to find Peter Cushing movies ("Cash" is also a 'Hammer' film).
Sadly, despite the cover saying "Corruption" is uncut, it is in fact the slightly cut/less explicit British version of this unusually sleazy Cushing vehicle (under the "Corruption" title) not the stronger export version (actually known as "The Laser Killer") which is what I was hoping the print was taken from.
NUTS!

Oh well, not seen either of them, and "Corruption" should at least entertain even in this form.

I agree, saw this at cinema and loved it. If you didn't like the film then it still deserves merit for it's SFX. It's CGI raises the bar.

Looking forward to the Alien films on Blu-Ray definitely

It certainly does. While I was watching it,I thought that Brad's head (in old age makeup) had just been cgi'd onto the body of the actor playing the young Benjamin, which is amazing in itself but when I found out it was done using motion capture,I was in awe.
