The reason I gave "Hurt Locker" a try is that supposedly it could be basically any war. It's simply the guys doing a job.
A genuine war flick.

Unlike the other movie shite involving Iraq which is all West hating, American soldier loathing, Pro-Islamist, hypocritical, pseudo-liberal, self hating, propaganda for the enemy.
Hitler would have ****ing loved the Hollywood/U.S. & Uk TV we have today. He'd be portrayed as a misunderstood victim with ideas for a better world.
Or perhaps not...As he foolishly didn't label 'National Socialism' a religion.

He endeth the politics.

Like a bit of shuttleworth myself  never knew this was released on dvd!

Haven't been very vocal on here reccently, guess i've just been a bit shy :laugh: anyway what I've watched (that i can remember at the mo) this year so far:

Black devil doll: disappointing, thought this could of been good, been wanting to see it for ages, since I first saw the trailer ooooh over a year or so ago. It's rather immature toilet humour just wasn't my thing.:ohwell:

Seven blood stained orchids: great giallo film, really enjoyed it. Awesome soundtrack and some nice stylish kills. Would love to see this in a yellow sleeve:nod:

Wheels on meals: Super fun Jackie Chan flick, with (as expected from Mr Chan) some awesome fight scenes and stunts.

Terrorvision: Silly but agreeable fun Charles Band production, with a cool monster (kinda reminded me of the monster from Deadly Spawn)

Badboy Bubby: Finally saw this after years of people recommending it to me. Brilliant, dark, disturbing yet funny film that somehow manages to come out with a bizarre and poignant feel good vibe about it.

Some good buying there Loopo!

Big fan of Save The Green Planet!

Pete 10th January 2010 01:12 AM

It came to £33 for that lot, which I thought was decent.

pedromonkey 10th January 2010 01:16 AM

got shot of a fair chunk of dvds to day and replaced them with....

Schindler's List
Tremors 1-4
Hills have Eyes 2 (2007)
Pathology

have just made an immense wish list on amazon too.

vincenzo 10th January 2010 11:47 AM

Picked up what appears to be an almost complete collection of 1990's Vipco videos & DVDs for £12. Haven't counted them in total but there's well over 70 titles in there (some duplicated as video/DVD), which ended up filling several cardboard boxes.

Most of these will be Amazon'd or eBay'd.

Philleh 10th January 2010 02:10 PM

Where the muggin's did you find that? ha

vincenzo 10th January 2010 06:18 PM

Bought it from a former schoolmate in Plymouth who's moving to sunnier climes. Interestingly one of the films is Vipco's unreleased (timecoded) video of Night Of The Bloody Apes.

Absolutely excellent cover art but the print is basically the same as the heavily cut Satanica video.

Stephen@Cult Labs 10th January 2010 08:08 PM

Ok,quick question.Does anyone have the play exclusive steelbook of Terminator Salvation? If you do can you tell me if the uk and irish ratings logos that i've seen on some pictures (like below) are just stuck on the front of the case or part of it?

http://i.ebayimg.com/17/!Bf2)QFg!Wk~...ytqqw~~_35.JPG

Paul@TheOverlook 10th January 2010 09:30 PM

UK and Irish certs are just stuck on and easily removed.

Stephen@Cult Labs 10th January 2010 09:33 PM

Thanks Paul.I'll get that ordered in the morning then :bananasuit:

Philleh 11th January 2010 09:51 AM

Nice haul there! Could make you a pretty penny too! :)

vincenzo 11th January 2010 10:37 AM

Beats watching them.

Daemonia 11th January 2010 11:47 AM

Yeah, don't watch 'em, Vin - they'll make your eyes bleed!

I have to say, it's been quite a weird turn of events that the Vipco vids and DVDs have become so collectible. When they first released DVDs as pan and scan, transferred from poor VHS sources (in most cases, at any rate) and charged £19.99 for them I thought they were taking the piss and never bought any. Vipco were publicly trashed as being rip-off artists and had zero credibility in the online horror community. Now, look at things now; now Vipco seem to have gained some kind of cult status amongst collectors. Very odd. I still think Mike Lee was a piss-taker though and have very little respect for him. Just my opinion, of course.

On the whole I'd sooner have my tongue nailed to the M1. :ack:

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 11th January 2010 08:19 PM

Watched Optimum's THE DEER HUNTER yesterday and whilst the Vietnam scenes looked stupendous, some of it wasn't up to par.Especially the darker scenes. :(

Daemonia 12th January 2010 02:03 PM

I wonder what's happened to Mike Lee? I heard a rumour --just a rumour, mind-- that he was living in Spain as a tax exile. Any truth to this or is it just more internet fabrication..?

If it's true, then he must've made a pretty penny off those DVDs!!

vincenzo 12th January 2010 02:10 PM

I think he's taken a course in 'digital remastering'.

Daemonia 12th January 2010 02:29 PM

I hope it's better than the last course he took. That one didn't turn out too well judging by the 'remastering' of the Vipco DVDs.

I could remaster better using sticky-back plastic and an old toilet roll. :D

vincenzo 12th January 2010 02:36 PM

The old Vipco DVD's were specially remastered using a George Foreman mini-grill. For the widescreen Shogun Assassin release the image was shrunk in a washing machine and large black lines painted over the top & bottom.

:D

:D

Then stretched on a washing line to make it the wrong ratio. Mike always liked to challenge the eyes of his viewers.

The old VHS tapes were mastered in a toaster, once they were nicely browned he'd stick them in cases and sell them. If the films needed censoring, he'd just cut it out the tapes with scissors and sellotape them back together. :D

Actually I'm convinced that's exactly what he did. :pound:

Daemonia 12th January 2010 03:04 PM

And for the DVDs he just scratched away that portion of the disc.

HOOO...I think it was that release where I got my one and only review quote on a cover when I reviewed the film for the long gone 'Zombiekeeper' site (as Lucio's Beard).

It was bad enough having my review of the uncut version slapped on to help sell a butchered version, but they also edited the sentence to make the film sound better than it was (it's a fun film...but it's still a bad film).
Hey ho.

Picked up:

"The Sopranos" - Season 1-6 Boxset (£48 from 'Head')

"Inglorious Basterds" - Shame about the crappy player generated 'chapter' headings they've put on this and the far too high subtitles!
Tossers.

And the good lady Wife picked up "Chuck" - Season 2 for us.

nekromantik 12th January 2010 05:05 PM
