Last haul before Christmas. I couldn't resist Bava's Planet Of The Vampires, especially as it appears Sony may own it in the UK, meaning it would be unlikely for Arrow. I gave it a spin as soon as I got it, and appreciated it even more than I did the last time I'd seen it. It's executed so stylishly, especially for the type of fare it is. I've never seen Shock Waves, but have been aware of it, courtesy of that art for many years. The new BD release seemed like the perfect chance to check it out.

Two Michael Reeves' films from Odeon, Witchfinder General has been cheap for a while, and The Sorcerers was only £10.99 in HMV. I still need to get around to picking up Blood On Satan's Claw. That doesn't seem to be cheap though. Might have to bite the bullet and pay current price. Nekromantik annoyingly arrived a little banged up. That Obscure Object Of Desire was dirt cheap on Amazon randomly, and they're phasing the line out I believe. Both might make an interesting double bill.

And finally, from 88 Films flash sale, both Graduation Day (which I already own from VinSyn), and Trancers. While everyone seems to be raving about the Scream Queens doc, I genuinely feel I may find it insufferable, looking at some of the contributors. But, I guess as a fan of the subgenre, I should support a Slasher Collection. And it was 50% off. ;)

A few books on Kindle

Complete Tales and Poems: Edgar Allan Poe
The Complete Collection: H.P Lovecraft
Cinema Italiano - The Complete Guide From Classic To Cult: Howard Hughes
Once Upon A Time In The Italian West - A Filmgoer's Guide To Spaghetti Westerns: Howard Hughes

Has anyone read any of these books and if so what are they like?

I have read all of Poe and Lovecraft, if you don't mind the older style of writing they are excellent and form the basis of horror as we know it pretty much. I also have the Huges book which is an okay general introduction.

So not just me then. That's a relief, I thought I was the only one on the whole planet!

Sad to here sony may own the rights to PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES. I have the kino disc but it would be nice to see a uk release. Sadly if Sony holds the rights the only way to get a uk release would be to hack them (or have a word with North Korea)

On the plus side Criterion releases of THE GAME and FOLLOWING both arrived.

It's the first in a line from Mondo, using their poster artwork and released by Future Shop in Canada. Next up is Boyhood and Looper, in 2 variations of each.

Are they limited to very low numbers?

Stephen@Cult Labs 24th December 2014 08:25 PM

I'm not too sure. It sold out on the Future Shop site, but they seem to have quite a lot in stores. So I don't think they're like low Zavvi numbers.

Interesting... just checked the discs, instead of Green Hornet they put The Green Zone in the box, at only £2.50 happy enough, they had a couple of Hornet so I might buy it again and keep Zone instead of returning it.

(I kinda like the Hornet as I remember the original and it spoofs it well)

J Harker 25th December 2014 02:30 PM

How long after checkout does the email take to come through when you buy an Arrow bundle?

It's a shame it's an American region locked thing

I would love to be able to hear a commentary for this film

It should arrive almost instantly – mine did, but was in my junk folder.

Got my Bubblegum Crisis blu-ray set from the kickstarter campaign. Came with some art cards and a keychain.

Corruption's cover art was a bit damaged, so I had to use the reversed art. ;)

Got my stuff from Arrow sale too, but the picture is missing The Burbs steelbook, cos I'm an idiot.

Lastly got the Six Gothic Tales from my fiancée as a xmas present! So very excited!

With any luck arrow or 88 films will bring us this version, which looks stunning from the small amount Ive seen

MuckyFunster 25th December 2014 09:47 PM

Mrs Funster bought me a Blu Ray player for my man cave (which is still pending completion) [emoji38][emoji106] A world has just been opened up to me! Wish she'd told me the other day though, before I bought all them DVDs in the 88 sale.

J Harker 26th December 2014 08:02 AM

It's compulsory around these parts mind Mr MuckyFunster that all mention of man caves are accompanied with pics. ☺

I also thought it was a forum rule that man caves had to have photographic evidence. If you don't accompany said claim with a photo, it's a bit like saying you've seen Bigfoot!

Photos please!

J Harker 26th December 2014 08:59 AM

Obviously if you have seen Bigfoot we'll have a photo of him too.

MuckyFunster 26th December 2014 09:20 AM

Lol, I hasten to add that it's pending completion. And by that I mean it's still in the planning stages and yet to be started on [emoji21] The Mrs has promised me the loft space and a futon. I thought she was going along with my planning it just to humour me. Now she's bought me this Blu Ray player it's like she's drawn first blood for the rest of the task. [emoji41] fingers crossed it doesn't end up plugged in in the living room!
