Default Sequels that are better than the first film

Sequels that are better than the first film

I've done a search and couldn't find a similar thread, but mods feel free to move or merge if I've missed one somewhere

What sequels do you guys think are better than the first film in the series?
Off the top of my head, I'd say the following sequels are better than the original IMO:

Aliens
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
The Godfather Part II
Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom
Scars of Dracula
Hellbound:Hellraiser II
Back to the Future 2
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Exorcist II: The Heretic (just kidding, it's ****ing awful!)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Evil Dead 2
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Probably a few more too
Wes and zane like this.

I think you might have named the best ones there Rik, but my addition to the list would be Amityville II: The Possession. I'd call out Road Warrior as well...

Interesting that you called out The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - I never saw that as a sequel, just a stand-alone film...

I was toying with the idea of adding it, which is why it's at the bottom of my list

Yep, most of your mentions are right on the money but Evil Dead II better than the original ? Not a chance !

I thought 28 Weeks Later was an improvement on a film I didn't care much for and same for Jeepers Creepers II...

I'm sure there was a thread like this, but can't seem to find it. I think it was something like 'best film in a series' or something, so not exactly the same anyway.

As for the question, I can't think of any, except perhaps The Empire Strikes Back and The Road Warrior.

Whilst not an official sequel, I also prefer Hammer's Brides of Dracula over all their other vampire films. I do enjoy them all though.

Maybe not better, but I certainly enjoy it more, that's not to say I don't love the original too mind, it's one of my favourites, but I tend to watch 2 more often

Y'know what, I never knew that...although I don't think I've ever seen the film in its entirety...

It is indeed, set a couple of years before if I remember correctly.
T2 is a good shout, it was while watching it on TV the other night that I came up with this thread idea, forgot to add it to my initial list
