You really must do so. It is a wonderful satire of industrial relations in 1950s British society and the 'cosy' life at the top of institutions, whether they are trade unions or major companies, and the corruption which allows those in power to maintain their positions. It is also extremely funny.

Thanks for the recommendation both. I've added it to my Love Film rental list under 'high priority'.

I hope you enjoy it. If nothing else, with Peter Sellers, Richard Attenborough, Terry-Thomas, Dennis Price, Margaret Rutherford, John Le Mesurier, and Miles Malleson, it has one of the finest casts of any British film.

Personally i think it's important to differentiate between a gangster film and a crime film (Crime is a subject we've done already) To me films such as Reservoir Dogs, Get Carter, Heat and The League of Gentlemen, for example are crime films rather than gangster. However it's entirely up to you.

Top 10 Gangster Films

Goodfellas (1990)
A Bittersweet Life (2005)
The Untouchables (1987)
Casino (1995)
The Little Giant (1933)
Bugsy (1991)
The Public Enemy (1931)
White Heat (1949)
Road to Perdition (2002)
Miller’s Crossing (1990)
Gangster Squad (2013)

Apologies to the purists but i think Scarface and The Godfather films are overrated.

Good call on the topic Don Dem. I'll include Get Carter in my list because I consider it to be a gangster film or at least straddles the line between gangster and crime sufficiently to be classed as one. Heat and Reservoir Dogs on the other hand don't feature any gangsters as far as I'm concerned. Neither does Scarface.
