Another made for T.V. movie this time Patrick Stewart takes the lead as Scrooge who seems a bit darker and meaner, Richard E. Grant plays Bob Cratchit who manages to look pale and sweaty at times, yet manages to give us a more heart warming presentation of the character. Dominic West plays Scrooge's young nephew Fred, who tries to bring a smile when speaking to the two charity collectors. Liz Smith returns from the 1984 version as the same character Mrs Dilber.

This does have a nice touch to it with the miners, mariners and then a prisoner singing to which the rest of the prisoners join in, and on Christmas day Scrooge attending a church and finding his voice while singing Christmas Carols to the point you realise he has discovered what it really means.

Was lucky enough to see Stewart's one man show of a Christmas carol, you think it wouldn't work, but it was amazing , really showed what a great actor he is as all the characters felt different.

A feel good festive family movie about a young boy who witness his parents murder by a man dressed as Santa and ends up in a orphanage run by a miserably old nun who constantly beats the boy. Years later he gets a job at a toy store and every thing is fine until he is asked to take the role of the stores Santa, and promptly snaps , going on a glorious and bloody killing spree.

Fast paced with some great kills. Only seen this one, I hope that old bat gets her comeuppance in the next one. 8/10

Black Christmas. 1974.

A group of Sorority Sister's plan their Christmas holiday while receiving what starts off as nuisance callers while the police try to figure out where the calls are coming from and soon the killings starts.

Why...oh why did this film get remade in 2007, then last year get another remake, sorry but this version is the original and best slasher Christmas film, every year I watch it and still find it suspenseful. Poor Olivia Hussey seems to be getting the calls that would make anyone feel uneasy, even Margot Kidder tries to laugh it off...well she ain't laughing for much longer. John Saxon plays the Lieutenant who's trying to solve a killing and locate where the calls are coming from. From start to finish this is one gem of a good thriller horror.

You don't need a big OTT budget to create a good film, a easy going script, good acting a director who knows how to create atmosphere and tense moments in one small building, thank you Bob Clark.

First Blood. That oft-told Christmas tale of the traumatised Vietnam Vet waging war on a small town because the hick Sheriff and his Deputies are pricks (except David Caruso, he was alright).

Been a bit rubbish in watching Christmas set/themed films, and contributing to this thread, so here is a quick summary of what I've seen so far. I can't believe there is only 1 week to go!!



Babes in Toyland is the Laurel & Hardy version and not the Disney version.

Was not expecting much but really enjoyed it very festive and Kurt Russel makes awesome santa.

A young girl and her brother set out to prove Santa is real , but end up crashing his slay and team up with the big man to save Christmas . 8/10




The Kranks decide to skip Christmas this year and go on holiday when there daughter leaves home , which doesn't go down with their neighbours who promptly set out to make there lives of misery and then to make matters worse on the ninth hour there selfish bitch of a daughter rings and says she's come home for Xmas with her dead beat boyfriend. How they didn't move years ago from this neighbourhood with all nasty freaks that infest it. Not the best Xmas movie but far from the worst that some reviews make it out to be. 6/10

The Legend Of Hell House. 1973.

A Physicist, along with his wife and two mediums one physical and the other a mental, are tasked to seek answers in life after death in the only true real haunted house "The Belascoe House" over a week from December 20th to the 24th, where a attempt was find the answers from a team that went in 20 years earlier and only one managed to get out.

You don't need a big budget, or so many actors to take up screen time that you never know who they are and big special effects to create a genuine suspenseful horror movie, just a good plot, acting and background score makes this film brilliant.

Clive Revill, Roddy McDowall, Pamela Franklin and Gayle Hunnicutt play the four main actors sent to investigate "The Mount Everest of Haunted Houses". From the start, Revill's acting basically reveals something is off with the house, then as the film goes on before and just after the arrival you know it will be a nightmare. Michael Gough has a uncredited appearance as Belascoe in form and in voice which we can recognise anywhere.

The Grinch is a mean spirited creature that hates Christmas and the the people of whoville( let's be honest he has a good reason), but one little girl is about too change this and shows him the true meaning of true spirit of Christmas , not the bastardised version of the who's. A enjoyable festive tale that has Carrey cranked up to 11. 7.5/10




Simply wonderful, a uplifting feel good festive comedy. Will Ferrell plays Buddy who has been raised a elf since he snuck in Santa's sack as a baby. When he finds out he's human he sets of for New York to find his father. 9.5/10
