Also watched Bram Stoker’s Dracula.....only slightly better than the dvd I’m afraid.
For such a lush looking film,I was disappointed.

I was actually quite pleased with this 4K UHD. Thought it was a good upgrade over my old blu-ray copy.

I also have the 4K Ultra HD of Coppola's Dracula and was very happy with the picture quality – it has noticeably more detail, deeper contrast levels, and more vibrant colours than the standard high-definition release.

I also quite liked it. The image is a bit softer than other 4k discs but I think it's a stylistic choice to be filmed that way rather than it being a bad transfer.

Perhaps the telly needs some adjustments......

what settings do you more experienced 4k viewers use?

Obviously the first thing is to turn off any motion smoothing. And tbh, anyone who chooses to keep it on needs slapped around the face with a wet kipper!

As for a picture mode, I have mine set to cinema. Some might find it a little too dark, but standard or vivid are a little too bright, and most people seem to agree that cinema (or movie) mode is more accurate, and sharpness set to 0, the last thing you want is the licture being artificially sharpened.

Some of those settings are also on the actual player as well so don't let that catch you out! It took me 20 minutes watching Tremors to realise something funky was happening, and it turned out my player had noise reduction turned on.

I watched part of the Kim Newman interview on Caltiki The Immortal Monster last night with the picture mode set to vivid.

Although it looked like he was sat in the same room as me i was getting radiation sickness from his waistcoat.
