You watched the behind the scenes features yet? You might be surprised at how many of the effects are achieved in-camera and not cgi (or only enhanced by cgi).

I recently enjoyed Strip Nude for Your Killer and Dead Kids (aka Strange Behaviour).

Watched District 13 last night. I quite enjoyed it. Didn't have as mich free running as I expected but, enough to satisfy.

Just watched the directors cut of DARK CITY. It was startling to watch, really visually spectacular and a great story too. Some sci-fi films (such as the matrix) leave me a little cold but this one had plenty of style, character and a great cast. Good to see Crystal Maze legend Richard O Brian on screen! The film itself was clearly inspired by things like Lang's METROPOLIS, film noir and the legendary anime film AKIRA :D

Saw Bram Strokers Dracula last nigh for the first time. I have to say that i was underwhelmed. It was ok, but had it not been for the lovely Winona Ryder, I probably wouldn't have watched it all:)

I thought it was decent rendition of Dracula; it wasn't a sombre affair like Herzog's Nosferatu and quite tongue in cheek but managed to create a good atmosphere and was superbly directed by Coppola.

Cushing is great as usual and some of the dialogues are really nice. The final scene has quite a lot of gore - I wonder whether George A. Romero had seen this flick before shooting Dawn of the Dead.

And the last monologue of Cushing aka Frankenstein - pure genius!

My favourite Hammer horror, Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell is an excellent film which has been unfairly maligned over the years imo.It has everything a Hammer fan could want: Peter Cushing, atmosphere and buckets of Kensington gore.Unfortunately Dave Prowse's monster costume is a bit ropey but still fairly original.

Just watched Spielberg's Duel. I hadn't see this for years and had forgotten how good it is to be honest. I think some of it could have been a bitmore tense but it's a genuinely brilliant piece of film-making for both a debut feature and for a made-for-tv movie.

I also think that Duel is a masterpiece. So minimalist and yet so impressive.

I especially love the scene at Sally's Snakerama Gas Station.

Here comes one of my 'old enough to...' posts. But yes, saw Duel when it first aired, I was 12 I think. Even though adverts kinda hurt it, U.S. tv is plauged with em, still thought it a true horror gem. Couldn't wait to tell friends at school about it.

I watched Frenzy again last night (4th time I think?) as my girl had never seen it. I still think it's one of Hitchcock's best "late period" films, but the bit with the potato truck is still like finding a rabbit turd in your Ben and Jerry's.

Haha that made me laugh. I've only seen this once, a few years ago now, and it's one of those films I keep meaning to go back to but that scene does stand out and ruin the mood of the film.

What films have you seen recently?

A SERBIAN FILM - uncut and no distracting x on screen
very good horror

pedromonkey 21st June 2011 10:11 PM

finaly got around to watching Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia, bloody good it was too, Warren Oates was hardcore in the film, he kinda reminded me of Porter in Payback. Very Cool, it's weird how this was made only three years after straw Dogs and the visual style of Peckinpah was completely different.

One of Peckinpah's best!

I tried watching Nikos The Impailer last night. Made it half way though. Bad acting, bad dialouge, tonnes of annoying exposition and a stupid looking bad guy in a suit of armour. Saying it sucks would be a compliment for this piece of rancid human waste.

I guess it may have got a bit better in the second half, but I doubt it.

Anyone got a good reason why I should watch the rest?

To keep it short and simple: no.

Here's why:

I've seen me a lot of weird shit in my day (e.g. Devils of Darkness - I should have been awarded the Medal of Honor just because I watched it till the end) - but I ain't never seen a one-legged stripper movie like this. :puke:

It would be interesting to know why you bought it in the first place, though.

Greetings!

Maybe. ;)

I've watched Psycho yesterday. The last time I had seen it - well, I can't remember, about a century ago, I guess. To be blunt: it is still overwhelming.
Fantastic black and white cinematography, clever script, good pace, a remarkable score, an outstanding performance by Anthony Perkins and - definitely some great inspiration for later movies. Why did I think of John Carpenter's Halloween more than once during the movie? :loco:

Very great flick indeed.

Greetings!

That's easy, I didnt buy it. I streamed it for free on Love Film. I was hoping it might be as entertaining as Zombie 90: Extreme Pestilence (also by Adreas Schnass).

Horror High (1974)...enjoyable horrific teen drama and a solid (uncut!) presentation from Code Red.

Demoncrat 23rd June 2011 11:40 AM

watched Collapse. an interesting monologue from an ex LAPD officer about the current financial situtation....if he hadnt kept mentioning the G word (and couldnt shake my suspicion about a slightly racist undertone) it would have been better....was that depressed after watching it, i had to put on Derek & Clive get the Horn....still hard to watch in places, but still totally silly

Last night I watched Red Hill on BD. I thought it was a superb film. So beautifully shot, wonderful score and great acting. It was just so much fun to watch and notice all the nods and winks to Spaghetti westerns and the music was so "Ennio Morricone"

Today have watched Stephen King's Graveyard Shift and Larry Cohen's Bone. Hadn't seen Graveyard Shift in best part of 20 years, and Bone was a new one for me and really enjoyed it. :thumb:

If there is one upside to unemployment, it's having plenty of time on my hands to work my way through the 'to watch' pile.

Ever seen LONG JENNIE SILVER? It's not about one legged stripper but it's a porno about a girl with one foot who gets freaky with her other, stumpy leg. She's not afraid to stick it in certain areas, as one unlucky gentleman finds out.

James Morton 23rd June 2011 03:42 PM

What films have you seen recently?

Last night I saw the Blue Underground blu ray of THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE
I noticed on dvdcompare.net that on the notes it says the line 'Bring on the perverts' is missing on the blu ray
It's not! On there very clearly as on the Italian track w/Eng subs as well

On the dvdcompare.net site it shows the differences between the Blue Undeground and Arrow
The Arrow dvd as we know is at a dumb ratio which cuts out a lot of the left and right and whats more the POV scenes are in black and white, but in the BU dvd they are in colour - Arrow what have you done!?

I read about that and saw the photographic proof in Cinema Sewer Volume 1 -- Robin Bougie watched some really messed up stuff for that!

I thought making the photographs black-and-white was a pretty smart move when the viewfinder marks aren't always visible due to Storaro's 2.00:1 ratio which is, to put it mildly, far from ideal. It easily differentiates the shots from the camera to those in the rest of the film.

Only saw that scene - only wanted to see it out of curiosity, and it's not as a bad as it's made out to be. She just kind of sticks it in there. Although I think if I hadn't read about it before hand I would have been shocked.

I agree with you to an extent
But its all the mistakes that Arrow have gone along with like Storato's wrong ratio etc
I've been a hard core Argento since the days of video and when dvd was available GREAT!
I have so all his films on dvd/blu ray and just very disappointed with Arrow over one of the best giallos ever - shame

Tell me about it. We've heard that often enough by now.

So could you please stop moaning? I guess it's clear that we all wanted the 2.35:1 aspect ratio. But now we have to live with the 2.00:1 Univisium. As you do not own the Arrow release - have fun with your BU release, but don't nag. It's no use crying over spilt milk. And besides: the Arrow release is nevertheless great. :yell:

No offense, but I had to say that.

Greetings!

PS: The Bird with the Crystal Plumage is Blu-ray only.

Not their fault though, they paid for the rights and were given a compromised version. Can't blame for them releasing it and trying to recoup their costs.

I often find when something really strange catches me off guard it has a far greater impact than when you know something is coming and what the 'something' will be. A prime example is Audition as I knew nothing about it when I first saw it and boy, did it sideswipe me!
