'Tenebrae' (1982) First time I've seen it! Great movie
'Skyfall' (2012) Good but not the best :)
'Night of the Living Dead' (1968) Hmmm! it killed an hour and half (which wasn't resurrected by high levels of Venusean radiation) ;)

Was that yr first time seeing the film ? I would consider Night of the Living Dead nothing less than a masterwork of American Cinema...

Same here – in terms of a horror film with social commentary and gore, it was years ahead of its time and is still a terrific zombie movie.

No. I've seen it before but it just didn't do much for me! I think it was Keith Wayne's acting and his constant "come on Mr Cooper...". The ending though I thought was great! And not because the movie had finished.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
Took my young son to the cinema yesterday to watch this and it was really funny, and the 3D was excellent too.

I hear ya, it certainly is rough around the ages, but it is what Neil Young might call ragged glory... It must have been something to see this film in 1968, after wading through a decade of pretty terrible studio film making and Doris Day vehicles...

Contro...

No, you're right of course Dude, and I mentioned this when I wrote about the film a few years ago...

The importance of Matheson's novel on the Fantasy genre cannot be overstated, and would be a key influence on modern Horror Cinema by way of Night of the Living Dead. The Last Man on Earth must have been in Romero's thoughts when shooting his landmark living dead film - the shots of the vampires laying siege to Gordon's home echo the sequences in Night of the Living Dead when the zombies gather at the farmhouse. Even more so, the final sequences of The Last Man on Earth strongly resonates in Romero's later work - the bitter ending where Gordon formulates a cure for the plague only for it to go ignored would turn up again in the climax of The Crazies, while the shots of armed mutants pursuing Gordon down a smoke-filled staircase are close to the swat-team sequence in the opening of Dawn of the Dead.

Sadly that seem's to be the way it will stay. The series should get a BD release soon though, KAZE bought a shit tone of 90's title's that have yet to be disclosed, but considering how few gem's there where in that dark time there will no doubt be an expected surprise on it's way. Cowboy Bebop on HD will be amazing.

Watched ghosted other night
Not a bad little film, well made acted etc story line etc with a good twist right towards the end, only problem I had was I'm fussy when I watch prison films I like them to be violent and brutal and found this wasn't either of them enough for me, but still a good reccomended watch and worth watching

Which release of Chopping Mall did you watch B_E?

Is it decent quality?

Wes 1st November 2012 06:21 PM

I received my Paul Naschy book today in the post and with an idle hour and half to kill, I grabbed a screening of Horror Rises from the Tomb to celebrate. This Naschy vehicle from 1972 is undeniably clunky, leisurely paced and the wayward plot throws in everything from bloodthirsty vampies, bug-eyed zombies to magical amulates, but the film is best watched as a mood piece for a dark wintry night, and seasoned Euro-Cult fans will be well served by the perilous dubbing, rioutous fashions, butcher shop gore, beautiful Spanish actresses frequently without their clothes and Paul Naschy hamming it up as a severed head. Director Carlos Aured manages some effective tricks on the cheap, and cheerfully kills off most of his cast... How can you lose ?

The UK 'Dead of Night' release from Cornerstone. It's pretty poor quality, but still watchable.

Think motel hell is one really bad awfully shite film

gag 1st November 2012 06:57 PM

The Aggression Scale

On the cover it says home alone for horror fans,it does exactly as it says on the tin as far as im concerned one of the best and enjoyable action / violence films I've seen for a while highly recommended you won't be dissapointed

Ha, I really like it! It's so silly, yet quite dark and creepy at the same time.

I also like it in a fun way, rather than treating it as a serious horror film.

What are your thoughts on Paul Leni's The Cat and the Canary BE?
I personally love it. :)

Me too. It's my favourite 'version' of that oft told tale, and even though it's completely silent (no music either), it's incredible eerie and very well shot. I actually chose it as my favourite horror film from 1927 (not that there were a lot of choices, though!)

Rik 1st November 2012 07:26 PM

Another fan of Motel Hell here, watched it the other day in fact

gag 1st November 2012 07:45 PM

Never seen dark night of the scarecrow before until it was on sky horror so recorded it highly enjoyed thought was very good , just one problem when in court for killing him asked what chance bubba have erm being tied to a cross, did that not cross anyone mind,

Recent viewings : 1)Sci-fi anime with impressive visuals, from the mind of Masamune Shirow,2)improved sequel,3)very disappointing, where to start, boring first hour, unoriginal final battle, lame villain... this is the last super hero movie I watched unless Nolan do something,4)this was a bit better than part one but still forgetable ,do a third and then retire guys!,5)first part of a favorite film series from my childhood :tongue1: ,6) best kung fu training ever! 7)The Sea Is Watching is a movie written and intented to be directed by Akira Kurosawa,It was good but something was missing,8)Peculiar vampire movie, Korean style from the director of Oldboy,9)intoduced this to a friend of mine and he loved it too! 10)one of the first great classic westerns! 11)one of my favorite Hitchcock movies,12)great movie, beautiful on blu-ray,13)pre- Nosferatu movie by Murnau with a scene that resembles it,not great but good.14)If you love Terrence Malick, then this is for you,Casey Affleck's performance is exceptional! 15)the hd transfer on the Arrow blu-ray is not flawless but the extras are very good,16)love Lee's silent perfomance in it

For the next ten days,I'll be a volunteer at my city's film festival so after that I'll post here everything I watched

JoshuaKaitlyn 1st November 2012 11:32 PM

Rabid (1977) :) Another ending which I thought was good. The dog tugging at the body seemed more disturbing than the actual 'zombie' attacks. The interview with Cronenberg on the disc was interesting also.

Watched Forbidden Zone for the first time today. Quite a trip, not sure what to think but very enjoyable!

A VERY HAROLD AND KUMAR CHRISTMAS.

I always feel like i'm supposed to hate these movies, but with each one I always ended up laughing and glad I watched it.

If you liked the previous harold and kumar films you'll like this one, very funny messed up humour and lots of shameless plugging of 3d. (still won't make me buy 3d though)

Oh and Neil Patrick Harris steals the show again!

TOXIC ZOMBIES - From the wave of rip offs that followed 'Dawn of the Dead', a relatively obscure provincial indie charting the zombie aftermath of an FBI marijuana crop spraying incident out in the sticks. I liked aspects of it, but to be honest it's a bit of a turkey. The music is dead on - classic 'video nasty' era minimal electronics - but the film itself drags, despite some nice moments. Like many of its badly shot, hurriedly assembled ilk it alternates between being boring, laughable, and satisfyingly grim. Bad / medicore film-making is one thing, and that's not my problem with 'Toxic Zombies' - it could've been a winner had it just been a bit more amped up. As it stands, it's an option for those who want a more polished early 80s zombie alternative to 'Alien Dead'.

Yep, I totally agree Frankie, this film really is a grind from start to finish, and it's a complete mystery why this film was added to the Video Nasties list. Amateurish is the word here, and one would like to be kinder to Toxic Zombies (or Forest of Fear as I know it), considering it's director Charles McCrann's only film and an obvious labour of love. As well as directing, McCrann produced, wrote, edited and took the lead role (and bears something of a resemblance to a side-burned Warren Beatty), and tragically, McCrann was killed on September 11th 2001, while he was working in his office at the World Trade Center...

Shame about what happened to the director, I didn't know he died during 9-11.
On a very different level, shame about the movie, as I just love those really gritty, yes, amateur productions from Nowheresville America from the 70s and early 80s, but I really can't say 'Toxic... / Forest...' works. Thankfully, a book like 'Nightmare USA' is of course full of examples of similar that do work.

Yep, the film even managed to sink below the high watermark of cheapness that is Don't Go In the Woods...quite an acheivement. We should mention that John Amplas appears in this but he's as flat as the rest of the film...

More infamous than famous. Not a patch on Deodate's masterpiece. Though lenzi did make a better Cannibal movie, Man from Deep River.

I gotta see Deep River Savages... dunno why I never picked it up... I like Ferox, it's is enjoyable and John Morghen is pretty damn good as a crazed coke head... Lenzi's Eaten Alive is pretty shoddy though I must say...
