What films have you seen recently?

Watched two films set in Venice at the weekend - Don't Look Now - I thought the Blu looked very good, was well happy with it; and The Tourist (wife's choice) which was one of the most pointless films I've seen in years... I mean terrible... It makes Entrapment look like a Hitchcock...

not technically a film but i watched the 3hr making of Alien 3 last night and i was shocked at how they made that film, It seemed to be a case of make it up as we go along and it's no wonder Fincher disowned it

Watched The Eagle on Saturday evening.

A very good British film starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell amd Donald Sutherland.

The story concerns a Roman officer who succesfully defends his garrison at Hadrians Wall from the vile Scots horde. His next mission is to retrieve the eagle crest lost by the 9th army who were defeated in Scotland.

A very good historical action film, well shot, eerie in places, and pretty violent for a 12 cert . Anyone who likes Gladiator, King Arthur etc will love it.

Great stuff, though of the two, I much prefer Coffy . . .

I really like Foxy Brown, Coffy and, to a lesser extent, Sheba, Baby.

I watched My Darling Clementine this afternoon, which is a great Western and up there with John Ford's best -- Henry Fonda is terrific as Wyatt Earp.

The Entity
Something quite slimy about this GHOST RAPE film written and directed by men, complete with leery close-ups of phantom squeezed breasts (nicked by Verhoeven in Hollow Man). To her credit, Barbara Hershy gives a committed performance, and she is the only good thing here. One of the stupidest third acts I’ve ever seen in a ghost story, with the haunted house replicated as a set in a school gymnasium, in a plan to capture the ghost by freezing it! Rubbish.

Cold Fish
Sion Sono’s Love Exposure never totally won me round, and this follow up similarly failed to really impress. Watchable enough, but I don’t think the plot warranted the indulgent running time. Some fun grand guignol gore though.

Confessions
Depressing film of the year clearly (Thom Yorke appears twice on the soundtrack!), dealing with the fallout from a child murder. Probably a little too hyper stylised for its own good, gets like a very grim music video at times. The plot heaps on the cruelty (extreme school bullying, twisted revenge plots, matricide...) , with an especially bleak twist ending – not exactly ‘enjoyable’, but definitely worth a watch.
