I wonder if it could be open matte (like the French dvd)?
I don't own it, but I've checked every database I know. That's where I've got my information from.

Found some more: This page says it's 16:9, Letterbox.

I'd say it depends on the price - if it's quite cheap, you might go for it.

I have to admit that the artwork is the best I've seen so far for this flick.

Greetings!

If it's crappy, you simply use the Japanese cover for the UK Anchor Bay release.

Short question: does anybody own this Region 1 release of Horror Hotel (aka City of the Dead) by VCI Video Entertainment? If you do: can you recommend it?

Greetings!

Greetings!
I have the VCI release which is also uncut as some versions delete part of the condemned witch's speech at the start.I'm more than happy with it & the print is pretty good of this extremely atmospheric film.Mine has a woman prominently on the cover though as it was an earlier pressing I assume.

Lucio Fulci's A Cat In The Brain looks like a very stupid movie - like a very stupid, ENTERTAINING movie, to be precise. Is it worth buying?

Greetings!

Many would say no, it's a hodge-podge of violent/gory scenes and a daft plot. But it's nice to see the old guy plodding about starring in his own movie, but it is very violent(banned for a long time by the bbfc) but... yeah, I bought it and don't regret it, just don't expect much and smile at the old guy wandering about while gory death happens all around him.

Cat in the Brain is great fun.

The City of the Dead dvd is excellent, stunning picture quality and a fine commentary by Sir Christopher. Its also the longest version available.

I agree with pretty much everything you said there.

Cat in the Brain is a complete mess and Lucio Fulci isn't the greatest thespian talent to ever grace the screen but, as long as you watch the film without expecting The Beyond, City of the Living Dead or Don't Torture a Duckling, it's a gory way to spend 93 minutes.

Thanks, Plato, Dem and Nos - I've just ordered both Cat in the Brain and City of the Dead.

Greetings!
