I watched Deliverance on Blu Ray last night and it really is one of the best films of the decade. Amazing how the macho character Lewis (Reynolds) ends up dependant on the timid Ed (Voight) for survival, and I've probably said this more than once, but Deliverance was an influence on many films that followed. Of course, the 'Duelling Banjos' scene is the stuff of legend and still provides goosebumps everytime it's viewed.

Well worth a revisit Dem. Another dark seventies thriller I think is great is Pakula's KLUTE. Jane Fonda was never as good in anything else I don't think.

Just ordered Deliverance from Amazon, the special edition seems a nice little set. £3.82 Laughably you can also get the bare bones version in a set with Get Carter (Caine) and True Romance for £3. Sadly Klute has never had a UK dvd release. Can't be bothered ordering it from the States just yet. Steelyard Blues is another i must look out for off the top of my head. |

Nice one. Of course other classic seventies flicks include Michael Winner's original DEATH WISH. I'm sure there's plenty of fans here....... Paul Kersey-NOT What Every woman wants.....

I actually prefer Death Wish 2 to Death Wish, but it is certainly a stand-out title from the '70s.

There are so many... One I've always really enjoyed that isn't horror, thriller or anything of the like is Network. Superb satire of TV following one man's descent into madness and another film that kind of sums up the 70's challenging popular culture.

great oriental ACO poster at start there! personally ive always considered Taxi Driver to be a horror film...but then i also think Christiane F is horror too, its down to opinion in the end. does its scare/terrify/unsettle you to your core? then its a horror film. Straw Dogs especially. no Harold and Maude fans? shame. and you put up Frenzy??????? a british Giallo at the very least. |
