Star Wars: Why some US cinemas are refusing to show The Last Jedi

Disney's strict requirements for screening may leave some smaller establishments out in the cold

Star Wars: The Last Jedi may be this year's biggest release, but don't expect it to show in every single cinema.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the huge success of both Disney's Star Wars and Marvel franchises has emboldened the studio to start making more aggressive demands from cinemas, specifically when it comes to their golden ticket, The Last Jedi.

Some owners are calling the terms "the most onerous they've ever seen", with Disney requiring 65 percent of ticket sales and a stipulation that the film be screened in the largest auditorium for at least five weeks.

This is in contrast to previous requirements of 64 percent of profits and four-week runs for previous Star Wars films. If a cinema fails to uphold the deal, they'll be subject to a five percent penalty - making Disney's total cut 70 percent of profits.

The demands are unlikely to have any great effect on major multi-screen chains, but smaller cinemas, particularly in rural areas, could be facing a major issue.

A location with, for example, only two or three screens won't exactly be inclined to dedicate an entire screen to The Last Jedi for five weeks, especially with several major other releases happening in December - Jumanji and The Greatest Showman, alongside Oscar contenders The Disaster Artist and Phantom Thread.

Fingers crossed, that won't mean fans are missing out on one of the cinematic events of the year, even if they have to make a bit of a journey to get to it.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits UK cinemas 15 December.

I don't know what's worst, the fact Disney are doing this, or 10 years of sequels and spin offs. It makes me wanna gouge my f**king eyes out.

The second is Troma’s YouTube channel, where they upload their movies for people to watch for free. The channel is updated week-by-week with films as well as “Kabukiman’s Cocktail Corner” and Kaufman’s own series “Make Your Own Damn Movies” lessons.

This should be worth looking Into.

'Peter Rabbit: The Movie'. Apparently release date is Feb '18, which is too early. It should be held back until end of March/start of April so it co-incides with Easter

I might be missing something and you may be referring to children seeing it during a school holiday, but what does Peter Rabbit have to do with Easter?

New hellraiser film

From Bloody Disgusting:
http://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3...iser-judgment/

MOVIESDirector Teases the Brutal Horrors of ‘Hellraiser: Judgment’by John Squires November 8, 2017

We still have no idea what’s happening with Hellraiser: Judgment in terms of the release strategy, and our only real source of information about the new franchise film has been its passionate director, longtime series makeup artist Gary J. Tunnicliffe.

On the latest episode of Adam Green and Joe Lynch’s The Movie Crypt podcast, Tunnicliffe didn’t reveal anything about the film’s release, which he’s likely as in the dark about as we are, but he did tease the gruesome horrors that await.

“I had the most fun on that I’ve ever had, and I’ve never worked so hard on a Hellraiser film, but we had a great time,” Tunnicliffe said of the new film.

“We did two sequences where… one the actress almost passed out… a scene that you especially, Adam… you are going to freak the **** out,” he continued. “I’ll tell you off air about it, and when I explain it to you, you’re going to be like, ‘Jesus Christ.’ Involving a small dog. No, the dog doesn’t get hurt. But it goes through some… trauma. And then we had three grips leave the set during a sequence when they said, ‘This is utterly screwed up.’”

Paul T. Taylor takes over the role of Pinhead for Judgment.

The film also stars A Nightmare On Elm Street‘s Heather Langenkamp, along with Damon Carney, Randy Wayne, Alexandra Harris, John Gulager, Mike Jay Regan, Diane Goldner, Andi Powers, Jeff Fenter, Helena Grace Donald, and Grace Montie (read about their roles).

In the new sequel, “Detectives Sean and David Carter are on the case to find a gruesome serial killer terrorizing the city. Joining forces with Detective Christine Egerton, they dig deeper into a spiraling maze of horror that may not be of this world. Could the Judgment awaiting the killer’s victims also be waiting for Sean?”

Tbh I didn't realise there was a new hellraiser film .
Saying that I havemt seen the last 4 or 24 films they made because I've got no idea how many hellraiser film there are now , last one I saw was I think no 5 or 6 I'm not sure tbh.

Cheers I googled it after I posted it ,
Think it ridiculous i think this sequel or cash in on film malarky is getting stupid, aliens , Fri 13 , children of the corn, tcm tbh I get bored or lose interest and don't end up watching them.. And if think hard enough there plenty of other films going that way.
Fast and furious , chucky, is the film industries really stuck and that desperate for ideas .

The new Halloween film is going to ditch the gore in favour of scares like Carpenter did with the original

Bryan Singer: Director fired from Freddie Mercury film - BBC News

Rik 5th December 2017 02:10 PM

Maybe he was under pressure and decided he wanted to break free for a bit, but the producers and studio said he’d been making too many innuendos about the fat bottomed girls that worked on set and saying he wanted it all because of the kind of magic he creates when making films?

Maybe he is looking for somebody to love like a killer queen who can ride the seven seas of rhye just like a good old fashioned lover boy in a bycycle race but that is a crazy thing called love and should play the game before another one bites the dust and then goes home in a flash............. which would be some kind of magic.:xmascan:

Seems a good choice considering the great directorial work he did making Sunshine on Leith and Eddie the Eagle, both films about real people and events.

Rik 7th December 2017 08:26 AM

Yeah, I haven’t seen either (which is obviously why I didn’t know he was a director), but they are similar types of films to the Queen biopic, so hopefully it will turn out well considering the amount of trouble getting it made, first with having to cast a new actor for Freddie and now switching directors during the home stretch
