I managed to cram an additional film in last night. The 1931 classic Frankenstein.

Many people prefer it's sequel but for me this is the definitive Universal monster movie and the film that arguably spawned the horror genre full stop.

I watched both Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein this month (I'll put up a collage of the posters for all horrors I've watched this month tomorrow) plus Dracula from the same year. It always amazes me how much more advanced Frankenstein is than Tod Browning's film, which looks stagey and stilted by comparison, whereas James Whale's masterpiece flows beautifully and has scenes which are much more affecting and scary.

I'm one of those who prefers the sequel, loving the subversive Dr Pretorius and his many vices, but the original film is a masterpiece of horror.

I just watched the better of the 2 80's vampire flicks The Lost Boys which is definitely my last films of the Halloween season as I'm going out in an hour!

Putting The Lost Boys is like setting a time machine back to my early teens, it always reminds me of my friends at school and talking about it in the yard. We all loved it, we all quoted it at each other endlessly.

It still holds up, and it's put me in a great mood
