A Warning To The Curious (1972)

It's been years since I watched any MR James stuff. So I stuck this one on.
Peter Vaughn visits the seaside, but its not seashells he's after. Driven by obsession and local legend, he seeks something far more precious ... whilst not his best, twas a pleasure to sit and bask in its measured pacing and unfussy production. Will dig the rest out for November methinks.

Salem's Lot. 1979.

Classic 70s Tobe Hooper series based on the imagination of Stephen King. David Soul is the novelist Ben Mears returning to his childhood town of Jerusalem "Salem's" Lot to work on his next book about the town's Marsten House that a incident in his younger years traumatised him. James Mason is the antiques dealer along with business partner Reggie Nalder who no one ever sees. But when people begin to fall ill mysteriously and marks on the neck, Ben teams with local school teacher Lew Ayers and then town doctor Ed Flanders and become vampire hunters with young Lance Kerwin. A nicely made late night chiller.

Halloween. 1978.

Classic John Carpenter film made on a low budget and still entertains and holds your attention, with Donald Pleasence as the doctor teaming with Charles Cyphers to stop the Boogeyman tormenting and killing teens in a small town especially Jamie Lee Curtis.

Night Of The Demons. 1988

A group of teens decide to hold a Halloween party in Hull House, a old funeral where a massacre happened and do a seance unleashing the evil within.

Kevin S. Tenney's classic halloween set film has it all, group of horny teens in costumes, dark atmosphere, possessed people and Linnea Quigley flashing her undies and boobs. Steve Johnson created the effects for the film and does a decent job with the make up for this cheese fest film.

Night Of The Demons 2. 1994.

Decided to do a double feature, this time a group of teens hold a seance and conjure up a demon or two and Angela from the first film makes a appearance. Decent follow up although not as good as the first film but certainly entertaining especially with nums using big water guns and good gore effects so we weren't disappointed or let down.

The Evil Dead. 1981.

You don't need a big budget to make a film, Sam Raimi done just that, low budget, 5 actors and one setting, a cabin in the woods. Annmarie had never seen this and after the tree rape her eyes were glued to the screen and found it disturbing yet entertaining. Why the film works, great camera work, Ted Sullivan gore effects and cheesy dialogue that the film shouldn't be taken seriously but never gets dull or boring.
FYI the 4k release is awesome.

Terrifier. 2016.

If you weren't afraid of clowns then this film will certainly put the living fear of clowns in you. What starts off as a harmless fun filled night for two girls laughing about and becomes a night of survival. Not much of a back story but who cares, we are not disappointed by the gore and blood splatter in this with some daft decisions made but it wouldn't be a proper horror without them.
