It is certainly a film which many would deem offensive as, like D.W. Griffith's Birth of a Nation, its politics are extremely contentious, but that doesn't remove from its technical merits. On that note, Jud Süß is an incredibly well-made film in which the anti-Semitism is part of the subtext which is why it was popular and a commercial hit in Germany when theatrically released.

Sadly, I had to study the works of Leni Refenstahl at University 'Triumph of the Will' is certainly NOT a film I would have chosen to watch, but to be honest, I am glad I saw it As Nos has stated, the power of the Nazi propaganda in this film can not be ignored Repellent - yes Essential viewing - yes

The truly horrifying films are usually not actually horror films. |

Most horror films are effectively fantasy films - zombies, vampires, werewolves etc Real life films are much more horrifying - war, social decay, rape etc

Franju's documentary charts the workings of some Parisian slaughterhouses, showing how various animals were killed in order to enter the food chain, with The Eternal Jew containing footage of kosher butchery. As they are presented in a matter-of-fact fashion they are stomach turning and, if I wasn't a vegetarian when I watched them, they would put me off eating meat altogether! If you have a strong stomach and want to know what I'm talking about, Le sang des bêtes is (I think) on YouTube. It's superb piece of filmmaking and a brilliant documentary short, but very tough to watch.

I don't know how long the actual film is, but there are listings on YouTube Le sang des bêtes - YouTube. Not watched them as yet, so cannot comment on the "warning: contains graphic violence" disclaimer

Casino I found to be very disturbing, alot more than any horror. I saw it many years ago and it scared me alot. Not really offended just very shocked. Thought it was a well made film, but not a film I ever want to watch again.

I think I have one we can all agree on!
Pretty Woman - goddam awful film and central hypothesis is that you can get on in life through prostitution, just wait for a prince charming and latch on... oh and it's gotta be the most sanitized vision of prostitution ever! No way my daughter is EVER watching it... On a more serious note I think trying to define the 'most offensive' movie is a very subjective journey. I'd personally exclude all documentaries as by my own personal rules they aren't movies cos they aint fiction! But there are certainly a slew of controversial movies that have the potential to offend and most have been listed in previous posts. There are very few movies that have truly offended me but I'd call out those that offend through disappointment, .e.g. Human Centipede, Hellraiser 4, 5, 6 etc. I understand the point re films like Serbian Film and there are certainly some offensive scenes in it BUT the film maker attempts to create sympathy for the main character and I believe it is intended to be a tragic tale. Does it work entirely - no, does that mean the entire movie is offensive -no. If you look at the infamous movies, MSP, Cannibal Holocaust, Nekromatik etc the same applies... I don't think any are irretrievably offensive (maybe MSP and the August series are an exception)... but I refer you back to the messages contained in the 15 rated Pretty Woman - offensive and terrifying!!! |

I found real animal cruelty in film offensive, just shows the lack of craft from the people involved. Romantic girly movies are absolutely repulsive to me. |
