A giallo fanatic or a gialli fanatic? I'm never quite sure which to use. However, if you replace the 'genre' with slashers, I suppose you would be a 'slasher fanatic', so the former would be correct. Anyway, it's much better than saying "giallos fanatic" or, as Kim Newman would put it, "yiallo"!

So Nos, in your opinion is The Girl in Room 2A a giallo or not?

I haven't seen it but, from the synopsis, I don't think I'm able to say one way or the other. It seems it involves the bit of amateur detective work by two characters, a killer whose identity seems to be unknown, and someone in danger. That definitely ticks three of the 'giallo criteria' boxes, but I do what extent the style and intricate plotting of the more established genre stalwarts is present. I'll probably need to see it to pass judgement.

No it should be 'giallo fanatic', you just proved my point by misusing 'gialli' haha!

Not a deliberate mistake – just thinking aloud. As I said, I equated giallo with slasher, hence why someone would be a 'giallo fanatic' like a 'slasher fanatic', not a 'slashers fanatic' or a 'gialli fanatic'.

No if you haven't seen it you cannot give an opinion really.

The Raro release is well worth picking up. It's a fine film.

And let's not EVER forget, Howarth doesn't consider Short Night of Glass Dolls a giallo. He included The Girl in Room 2A in his book, but not Short Night. Just have a think about that, reflect on it, cogitate
Haha, very true! Although, as mentioned I think it covers enough of the tropes to qualify myself. As for Short Night, whilst I indeed consider it a giallo, I can certainly see where he's coming from by not including it as it hardly sticks to a classical formula either... and also includes ritualistic dark rites and the disappearance of young girls just like The Girl in Room 2A, albeit the story playing out in a very different manner.

It could be.

I glanced round at it and noticed it had got out of place on the shelf. Easy mistake.
