First thing I thought when I heard it was "Those drums sound Pro Tooled to ****!" roughly translated as "recorded in bits and pieces and patched together using Pro Tools".

Love the song though and can't wait for the album

Opeth are one of those bands that it's difficult to recommend individual tracks as they probably are better represented in the context of an album's body of work.

Their sound has completely changed over the years as they evolved musically. From their death metal beginnings they grew ever more progressive as time went on (As with Katatonia and Anathema for other prime examples)

My favourite Opeth album is the outstanding Blackwater Park from 2001.

Here's The Drapery Falls from that album.



Two years later the Damnation album featured no death metal vocals or heavy riffs and was very 70's inspired. Here's the delightful Death Whispered a Lullaby from that album.



Here's The Grand Conjuration from 2005's Ghost Reveries album.



I saw them in 2006 at Manchester Academy (Paradise Lost supported) now a regular venue for them is The Royal Albert Hall.

Here's brand new single Sorceress, from their forthcoming album also titled Sorceress. Very 70's inspired. I can't wait!!!

Just to throw a wrench in the works, my favourite is the Morningrise album, specifically the song Black Rose Immortal or Advent. However I really love how they have progressed over the years and the Watershed album saw the band move to Roadrunner records and into a more Progressive style than before.

They are probably my favourite Metal band and I can't wait for the new album to come out!

I wasn't sure where to post this, but this is as good a place as any. I have found a podcast called The Classic Rock and Metal Podcast (Classic Rock and Metal Podcast). They have two episodes of Tommy Vance's Friday Night Rock Show. One is from '81 and the other only happens to be from the night before Donnngton '88!

Essential listening for those old enough to remember and those young enough to of missed it all the first time round.
