I went to a fundraising event last night in town where two local bands ? Floral Detectives and The Skapones ? were playing.

Floral Detectives were musically really good but very unfortunate because Calum, the lead singer, was losing his voice before they started and it had practically gone when they finished, so he was croakily joking that he sounded like Dot Cotton, then Tom Waits, then asked if anyone had a Strepsil!

The Skapones were excellent, a lively six-piece 2Tone ska band who were almost certainly influenced by Bad Manners, The Clash, and The Specials. They ramped up the energy levels thanks to the saxophonist, keyboards, and stage presence of frontman Willo.

I had a really good night and will definitely go to see The Skapones again because they were the pick of the two acts.

Haha! Brilliant.

They were the low watermark for all the bands, mainly support, we considered crap.

"Well they were shit, but not as bad as Bis though".

Back in 96 they only had some EPs and split singles out and they were a very love them or hate them band. However, kudos to them for being the first ever unsigned band to appear on Top of the Pops.

They?re a lot more professional and polished these days haha.

Glasto 2024 seems like a pretty poor line-up

There is only Cyndi Lauper and Shania Twain who would be 'must-see' as far as I am concerned
