I agree, the version of Animal on that album is awful!
But, because of the production by Mutt Lange, they’ll never be able to recreate that album live properly, the title track alone has over 20 guitar tracks layered on it, not to mention the sheer amount of vocal harmonies that a five piece band can’t do live.

I’m not a huge fan, but I do fancy seeing them live at least once

Snap! Except i am a fan. Well i own the majority of their albums anyway. Oddly the ones i don't own are the ones most metal fans love - Pyromania, High and Dry and On Through the Night. I've got all the rest.
