The Concert Thread

Although that lineup has few highlights for me, I'll probably still watch it on TV to see if there are any unexpected surprises, artists who are better than expected or people, like Dua Lipa, I have never seen in a live performance.

I don't know whether it's a sign of how good they are or how few options were available to the organisers that Coldplay are headlining for a record fifth time.

Most of that line up for a festivals would make me not want to go. Not really my scene most of these. Few decent (ish) bands but nothing total outstanding,
I like orbital,
Bloc party have had a few decent songs
Keane are excellent live.
Not dissing bands like Coldplay Dua Lipa and shania Twain but not really my scene.
And bands like the streets I find garbage.
Good half I?ve no idea by name.

I'd only be interested in seeing Heilung and The Last Dinner Party., probably Polly Jean as well.

I suppose i'll end up watching Coldplay on Saturday night though. It's usually a decent show.

I really want to see them in concert but I definitely don?t want to see them in an arena, I felt the same on the last tour as well. I reckon they?d be incendiary at an Apollo sized venue.

I too would love to see them but as you say they aren't an arena band other than popularity wise.

I'd like to see them in a smoky club in Berlin in 1930.

Hammersmith Apollo is bloody massive as well, not O2 arena massive but twice the size of Manchester Apollo.

I?d rather him be at AO arena because prices might be a bit steep but they’ll be a lot dearer at co-op arena, I saw Peter Kay at AO arena and paid about ?40 that?s with all the added crap added on. Co-op arena starting price is around is 75.

Cannot comment on Manchester (but apparently it has a capacity of 3,500)!

The venues I have used in the past are:

• Portsmouth Guildhall (capacity 2,500 standing / 2,009 seating)
• Southampton Gaumont / Mayflower (capacity 2,300 [but it was bigger as the Gaumont. When it was rebranded to the Mayflower, it tends to mainly put on traveling stage shows rather than concerts])
• Brighton Centre (capacity 5,515 standing / 4,270 seating)
• Birmingham LG Arena [previously known as the Birmingham NEC] (capacity 15,685)
• Birmingham Barclaycard Arena (capacity 15,800)
• Nottingham Motorpoint Arena (capacity 10,000)

Apparently the Hammy O has a capacity of 3,655 seated or 5,300 standing (so it's equivalent to Brighton)

Out of those, the two Birmingham ones used video screens while the Portsmouth one was so intimate you could see easily the guitarists fingers on his fretboard

I prefer smaller venues, unless the stage show is VERY visual - i.e KISS, who I think work better in the larger venues because of the scope of their shows

I am really looking forward to seeing the Jeff Wayne 'War Of The Worlds' thing at the 02 - I think that will be a very spectacular experience
