I bet they were a lot of fun live.

A shame they ended up being a prototype Girls Aloud! with International Rescue, Pink Sunshine and Self. Even though i love all three singles.

Not an album, but I just scored this vintage late 70's Yamaha amplifier/receiver. Mostly to play my vinyl. I love the look of the 70's receivers, not to mention the sound quality is amazing.

Finally some decent remastered editions for one of my favourite bands.

To complete my Queen discography, I've just ordered Innuendo and Made in Heaven.

Innuendo is excellent. Perhaps my fave Queen album.

Made in Heaven, thats not so good. Far too many ballads. Also not needed after the finality of the last track on Innuendo.

All opinion of course.

I look forward to listening to them and then letting you know whether I agree with you or not.

It'd have to be either Queen II or Sheer Heart Attack for me!

I've never downloaded an album in my life. I love seeing my LP/CD collections knowing I own every one of them.

Aside from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' greatest hits in Tesco (£3, bargain!) I think my last album bought was HELL's Curse and Chapter. The fancy edition with the live DVD that folds out to a Ouija board :D

Is the live dvd any good? Is it a full headline show, festival appearance or just a few tracks?

applecore 5th January 2014 04:21 PM

Haven't had chance to watch it yet if I'm honest. I know it's a 50/50 split with their headline show in Derby with Winterfylleth and their set at Bloodstock. Track listing is as follows:
Live at Derby Assembly Rooms:
1. Let Battle Commence
2. Something Wicked This Way Comes
3. Plague and Fyre
4. The Devil's Deadly Weapon
5. Save Us From Those Who Would Save Us

Live at Bloodstock:
6. Darkhangel
7. The Quest
8. Blasphemy and The Master

The album itself though is absolutely excellent, though there's been a few complaints that the DVD disc has glue on it from a shoddy build on the case which affected one of the pressings. In fact, I know a poor sod who sent his back only to get another one with glue on it! As far as I'm aware they've recalled all the dodgy ones and sorted it now though.

Demdike@Cult Labs 5th January 2014 04:25 PM

Cheers Applecore. :thumb:

Eight live tracks isn't bad. Its an album i've been meaning to pick up but not got round to it yet.

applecore 5th January 2014 04:29 PM

No worries. I'll likely watch the DVD this week so once I do I'll post on here to say whether it's any good or not. It was £7.99 for the single disc and £8.99 for the double on the Sainsbury's entertainment site, so figured it would be a no brainer haha. I know a bunch of people who went to the Derby show so it'll be a laugh looking out for them at least. I was at the Bloodstock show, too, so I'll be looking for myself more than watching the show!

A couple of new arrivals earlier in the week. The latest albums by Clutch and Uncle Acid and the DeadBeats.

Both worthy of album of the year status.

Rik 10th January 2014 10:54 PM

I've had this on cassette since it came out nearly 25 years ago, pretty much wore the damn thing out! :)

I received Innuendo and Made in Heaven late last week and listened to them over the weekend. I completely agree with Demdike's analysis that Innuendo is one of Queen's best albums and, even though it is really good, Made in Heaven is a little too ballad-heavy to rank with the best.

What did you think of The Miracle Nos?

It was the album, or rather lead single I Want it All, that first brought Queen to my attention. I'd never really listened to them before seeing the video on tv and was blown away by such a great yet simple rocker. The Flash soundtrack aside, which always seemed more novelty than proper album, the band were in the midst of their disco / non-rock phase whilst i was discovering music so this album was a real eye opener.

As for the album itself. It has some superb tracks - I Want it All, The Invisible Man, Breakthru, Scandal, and Was it all Worth It?, the rest is fairly light weight fluff.

I think The Miracle is an excellent album, but my favourites are The Game and The Works. Hot Space is definitely going to be an acquired taste and will take many more listens than the others until I work out whether I really like it or not.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the surprisingly good Queen + Paul Rodgers album The Cosmos Rocks.
