I can imagine it looks superb. A black and white restored film looks magnificent on upscaled dvd. I can only imagine what one looks like on blu.

Unless it's not much different?

You can tell a massive difference, especially on older films!
I'm going to watch Mildred tonight anyway I've decided

Yeah, I'd definitely reinforce this. A lot of Noir and classic b&w horror looks shocking on DVD.

Do you think so?

When i was thinking of black and white i was thinking of Networks releases, Universal horrors, Val Lewtons films, or say last nights The Lady from Shanghai, The Thin Man films, or the BFI noir releases. Basically anyting that's been restored looks very good on dvd upscaled.

Yes, any recent restorations that use new transfers will look good on DVD. Pretty much any Flipside DVD will look as good as its Blu-ray counterpart, however they only release them as dual format, so the people buying them will be predominately never ever getting their DVDs out of the cases anyway.

Even though they look good on DVD, it's like looking through fresh eyes when you look at a good bluray. Films like Cat People, the Universal Monster Movies, Double Indemnity, The Lost Weekend, Some Like It Hot, Gilda etc etc they look amazing like they were just made.

Fan-****ing-tastic news!

I have the Japanese BD but this is a must-buy for me.

The old Criterion dvd was one of my favourite possessions!
