Never seen the colourised version, I might watch it once just to see how truly awful it is, I mean it can’t possibly be worse than the first version I owned on DVD can it?

I am tempted by the Criterion one (and Silence of the Lambs) purely for the workprint version

The original 4 Front Video release (from the 80's) was very poor - it was like a child had just splodged colour over the pictures, with no thought of staying within the lines

I would imagine later releases were much better, but the memory of that video (and the farce that is the 30th anniversary 'special edition' from Anchor Bay's "Trilogy Of The Dead" box set) convince me just how essential the original black and white version was!

The 4 Front video release is the one I remember seeing in shops and video rental shops in the 80’s

That's the last time I saw it in that 'incarnation'.
I bought it from a WH Smith bargain basket for a quid!

Thankfully Tartan Video eventually put out the original b/w version. This film has had its fair share of labels !
