I got around to watching Luther last night, I'd been putting it off as the reviews of the film itself were not too good.
I actually really liked it, yes it's goofy, yes it has a grown man making chicken noises but it's actually a well made little horror film. Characters do things that you think "why?", there are boobies, there's gore and it looks pretty damn good in HD.

you are absolutely right! there can be no argument against boobies and gore in HD :pop2:

Samples now in stock, but the question has to be...why are there so many Code Red boxes in the picture? Is this just to wind Bill up, or are they clues to forthcoming releases?

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 17th August 2017 01:52 PM

That must be an old picture because I received my copy a few days ago and watched it last night.

As for the Code Red titles, it could be a windup, a clue to future releases, or both.

Rob4 17th August 2017 02:00 PM

Code Red Spines

118 - Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker
121 - Quadroon
123 - The Great Alligator
124 - Cry of a Prostitute
126 - One Dark Night
128 - Top of the Heap

can't make out the others

can't see why 88 can't release them? they duplicated a lot of Code Red's catalog already.

I'm not debating that part, but I'm sure Bill will get pissed off

From everything I've heard, that doesn't take much!

I think I'll hold off on Code Red's Cry Of A Prostitute, just to see if 88 Films put this out. We already knew they were putting out One Dark Night. Sadly I've already imported Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker. Couldn't resist picking up that gem as soon as I could. It's a shame about the glare on one of the titles.

I wonder if 88 Films could get their hands of Humongous. I gather there's slight audio fault with Scorpion's release.

JAMIOUSE 17th August 2017 06:39 PM

I think the pictures partly to wind Bill up as he's constantly accusing 88 and other companies of stealing his work. If a licenser has a HD master of course they are going to license it to other companies they want the money.

88 had previously told someone they didn't have Cry of a Prostitute maybe they've licensed it now. If those are future releases I'm quite happy, there's some good titles there.

I hope it's better but, that said, I don't know if it could be worse.

Get the F**K out you sheet bothering C**T.;)

Creativ Studios 21st August 2017 09:28 PM

I can assure you it's not a sequel to The Haunting of Annie Dyer (which personally I didn't think was even worth releasing). The character of Annie Dyer appears (who could give up on that character name?!) but it's an entirely unrelated story and a much bigger and better production.

You'll like it - honest!

Not biased then ;)

Just checked out who the production company is on Amazon

I'm always totally honest about our output - quite happy to admit that "Annie Dyer" was a terrible affair which was never intended for release in the UK (but the chaps at 88 thought it was worth a punt).

HELLRISER is a whole different kettle of fish and is already getting good reviews. Seriously, it's a great fun supernatural slasher with loads of boobs, giallo-style kills, humour and Argento-influenced lighting.

Can i ask? Are you Steve Lawson?

If so i listened to your commentary on Annie Dyer on Friday night and have to say it was the best and most informative and interesting talk on low budget film making i've ever listened to.

One room, actors who never meet even though they seem to be in the same room. I thought it was so creative.

Creativ Studios 21st August 2017 10:09 PM

Well, I had to put SOMETHING on the DVD to make it worth watching! Glad you enjoyed it. People are very quick to dump on low budget films (unless they were made 30 years ago in Italian!) but when you learn what goes into making even a lousy film like "Annie Dyer" I think it can be quite interesting.

You'll be glad to know the HELLRISER DVD has a commentary and some other featurettes showing how it was made.

You've sold it to me now.

Annie Dyer would have benefited had the majority of scenes not been obscured by CGI mist. That was my main gripe.

I just found what you had to say and how creative you had to be due to lack of budget extraordinary stuff.

Welcome to Cult Labs by the way. :welcome:

Just out of interest, in the cause of equality, are there loads of penises as well?

Creativ Studios 22nd August 2017 05:59 AM

Funnily enough that wasn't high on the list of things that 88 suggested should be in the movie.

Welcome to 1977, 88Films!

I see a slight problem with their thinking! Times change and so do attitudes and what people want

Well, to be fair the film IS purposefully retro and is designed to look like a 70s/80s horror since that's what 88 Films specialise in releasing.

Actually, you'd be surprised just how many "likes" The Haunting Of Annie Dyer gets from female viewers, I would say equal to or more than ones from men (and it also has female nudity).

In fairness, boobs are not exactly the same, because they are not genitals and everyone, regardless of gender has them in some shape or form!

A bare chest is a bare chest, only the female one has been increasingly sexualised in many areas of the world.

Actually Nosferatu, I have to confess there's a lot more on display than just boobs in HELLRISER...

Agreed, it IS sexualisation of the female body. When the word 'boob' is mentioned, how many people think of a topless male?

This is by no means aimed wholly at Creativ Studios, but when they were promoting the film

'loads of boobs' was listed as the first of their USP's. In all honesty, who do you think the target audience for that comment was aimed at?

Anyone who wants to watch an exploitative horror film, so come down from your moral high ground. :thankingyou:

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 22nd August 2017 10:48 AM

It is a lot to do with expectations and the target audience, so I don't blame Creativ Studios at all for using genre tropes to sell a movie. The marketing has worked because I'm interested!

In terms of the word 'topless', put it into Google images and see how many male chests you see. Replace the search term with 'barechested' and the results are very different.

With all due respect, the words 'topless' and 'barechested' were not used

The word 'boobs' was used

Justin101 22nd August 2017 10:54 AM

I don't mind boobs (men's or women's) but I much prefer bums in films

I was broadening the discussion to show the difference between the genders in society rather than in genre films.

In publicising an exploitative slasher movie, I don't think there's any problem at all with using 'boobs' to tell the audience what to expect.
