Edit - Just had a look. It's got a bit of print damage. A 2K restoration would be nice if they do then it's one i want for sure as is Pumpkinhead II. Wonder what happened to Pumpkinhead itself?

Screenbound releases were generally good, but for NotBH, for whatever reason, they used what looks like a print rather than the OCN or at least something closer to the source like an interpositive. Hopefully, 88 will get better materials. I have a soft spot for the movie after seeing several TV airings as a youngster and it would be nice to see it in the best presentation possible.

I wonder if 88 will do a re-release of Island of Terror? Wasn't the previous UK release the cut version? I have the US release which is uncut.

Also speaking of Planet, I don't think Devils of Darkness has ever had a BR release. It would be good for UK horror completists to have that one on the shelf in HD.

Devils would be great as would Witchcraft. A movie i have paired with Devils on a Midnite Movies dvd.

Directed by Don Sharp and starring Jack Hedley and Lon Chaney Jr, i really like it, much more than Devils of Darkness. Despite being a British film it was made by Lippert Pictures not Tigon so can understand why it's not in the Tigon Collection from 88.

Demdike@Cult Labs 4th May 2024 10:53 PM

Just a heads up if anyone's interested.

Skinned Alive is a very low budget Texas Chainsaw style gore film that borders on silly comedy. I have the Film 2000 dvd from years ago.

I've seen the dvd a couple of times but it's not the sort of thing i'd upgrade to Blu-ray.

nosferatu42 4th May 2024 11:15 PM

Well that sounds right up my street.

This is a list of movies that were produced by Tigon:

Mini Weekend (1967)
The Sorcerers (1967)
The Blood Beast Terror (1968)
Witchfinder General (1968)
Love in Our Time (1968)
Curse of the Crimson Altar (1968)
The Body Stealers (1969)
What's Good for the Goose (1969)
The Haunted House of Horror (1969)
1917 (1970)
Monique (1970)
Zeta One (1970)
Black Beauty (1971)
The Beast in the Cellar (1971)
The Blood on Satan's Claw (1971)
Hannie Caulder (1971)

The Magnificent Seven Deadly Sins (1971)
Virgin Witch (1972)
Doomwatch (1972)
Au Pair Girls (1972)
Neither the Sea Nor the Sand (1972)
The Creeping Flesh (1973)

Orange - released or announced by 88 under the Tigon sub-label

I guess it's unlikely we would get The Creeping Flesh as I understand it is partially owned by Kevin Francis

A couple of the others - Virgin Witch & Haunted House of Horror already have special editions from Screenbound

Probably we can expect a re-release of The Blood Beast Terror and there's a good chance of Zeta One.

I'd really like to see Niether the Sea Nor the Sand upgraded to BR.

I'm not sure what the commercial viability of the rest would be?

EDIT: I think its with Sony in the US, so I wonder if Indicator would consider a US only release of the The Creeping Flesh once Mill Creek's rights have lapsed? Just an idea for Michael Brooke to kick around maybe? ;)

Zeta One, Au Pair Girls and The Sex Thief (Which you omitted from the list) have already been released by 88 Films as their Saucy Seventies box set. I know this as i watched Zeta One on Friday night.

Monique is an excellent film by the way. I have the Odeon dvd. Oh and Doomwatch would be very welcome even if you don't think it would be commercially viable, although i disagree. Especially as the series sold well on dvd.

Black Beauty another you don't think would sell well is probably the most commercially viable of the whole list.

Thanks Dem,

I didn't know about the 'Saucy 70s' set. I wonder why they didn't put those on the Tigon sub-label?

Ah my bad, I didn't mean to miss out Doomwatch! I have the US import for that one as well but I'd consider a double-dip on a UK release.

For the others, it's not that I don't think they would sell. It's just I don't know enough about them to make a judgement. I tend to avoid things like Black Beauty, Lassie, Skippy, Flipper or anything of that ilk... except Champion the Wonder Horse... now that's quality

Haha. Black Beauty was never like Lassie and Skippy and those shows. The Britishness of it always gave it that streak of something bad might happen to the animals. Especially in the movie versions. See Tarka the Otter and The Belstone Fox as other examples.

Zeta One looked lovely by the way. The set is pretty cool with a good booklet and double sided poster on quality thick paper.

I love The Belstone Fox. It's so dark, I consider it a horror film...

The Odeon Blu ray is uncut.

I'm quite happy with the Blu ray titles already released from Odeon including The Black Torment and Island Of Terror.

Curse of the Crimson Altar has a beautiful image quality on the Odeon Blu. I rewatched it last night.

When I saw there was a film called Skinned Alive was going to be released, I thought that it was some film from the 80's.

Then someone mentioned it was originally released by those beacons of OTT takes me out of it for FX and dodgy acting. Film 2000

Also has previously mentioned, these type of films have their place, when they cost ?3 or less or maybe ?5 if it looks really good, where expectations are low but not at ?18 or even in one of their sales prices.

If there was a Documentary on the OTT schlock films that were around in the late 90's to early 2000's like 88 did with Cannibal Terror with their Eurocine Cannibal Movie Documentary. Then it would make it interesting.

'Sex And Zen' (1991) - Coming to Blu-ray in the UK from 88Films

Release date: July 29

"?Banned for 400 years!? screamed the original poster and you can see why as this erotic comedy is brilliantly bizarre, pretty sleazy and downright weird

Also known as The Carnal Prayer Mat's Stash of Illicit Love and slightly based on the seventeenth century novel The Carnel Prayer Mat, we follow a desperate man who is convinced by his mentor that he needs to be ?well equipped? to pleasure his wife, so he has a horses appendage transplanted onto him! From here on in it gets really strange!

A box-office hit in Hong Kong, this Category III movie is an erotic experience like no other and presented here UNCUT and remastered for the very first time."

"Rob Zombie popularized the 'hillbilly horror' subgenre with films like 'House of 1000 Corpses' and 'The Devil?s Rejects,' but writer / director Jon Killough did it over a decade earlier by making a movie that?s fun for the whole family? the Manson family, that is!

Crawldaddy and her kids travel cross-country selling fine leather apparel when their van breaks down in the Ohio backwoods. Auto mechanic Tom and his wife Whinnie put them up for the weekend, until ex-cop neighbor Paul discovers what their product is really made of...

Painstakingly restored from a 2K film scan of the original 16mm A/B roll cut negative with a dynamic 5.1 surround remix, 'Skinned Alive' debuts on Blu-ray. I would like to see a Blu Ray of NEITHER THE SEA NOR THE SAND.
It?s quite an understated piece and quite atmospheric.
I have the old Redemption dvd, but an upgrade would be welcome.
Always thought it would make a good Flipside release too.

I've been trying to find a list of extras and, well, any information on this release, but none seems to be available. Even the 88 Films website doesn't mention it, even though it's already available for pre-order on Amazon. Cushing + Lee + Fisher, what's not to love? :) odd that it's so low-profile...

We are still waiting for further info regarding 'American Pie', and that is only about a month away from being released

When was the last time 88Films had a vanilla release with absolutely no extra features?

Photo Gallery and Trailer isn't special features, it's not 1998, next you'll be saying an interactive menu lol.

I think there are quite a few 'Studio' releases from 88 with nothing on them.

According to the 88Films website, they are!

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • INCLUDES FIRST PRESSING SILVER BOARD DOUBLE-WALLED O-RING
  • INCLUDES FIRST PRESSING BOOKLET NOTES BY BARRY FORSHAW
  • High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) Presentation in 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio
  • LPCM 2.0 English Stereo
  • Optional English Subtitles
  • Original Trailer
  • Stills Gallery
  • New Artwork by 17th & Oak

The Booklet is more of a special feature

Edit, I got my Arrow Blu out the other week and that's pretty stacked, but they either produced those themselves or licensed them Shout Factory and they probably didn't want to share

peter alex 15th May 2024 02:40 PM

The Package and Once Upon a Crime only have a trailer and reversible sleeve (OUaC has widescreen and fullscreen trailers).

The standard edition of Piranha II had a trailer; the original pressing had a slipcase and poster; Sahara had a stills gallery.

The Spanish Chainsaw Massacre and Footsoldier are completely barebones.

will graham 15th May 2024 08:31 PM

You say they're barebones but they did have interactive menus 🤣

Nuno_Miranda 16th May 2024 04:09 PM

None of this bodes particularly well for Night of the Big Heat's list of extra features lol

Nowadays we're (barely) past the interactive menus as a special festure, but we still get so much filler: how many times have we seen a 3 minute interview with the second assistant to the gaffer? I mean, it's interesting, but barely adds anything to the film :)
Still, one takes what one can get, but hoping for an interesting and informative commentary at least.
