Indeed. We now have a nice new (and better) format to release titles on. So what they do? Re-release DVDs. Pointless. Now if these were BD announcements, I'd be excited. But re-releases of DVDs most of us already have? No.

I was pissed off that the licensor of Vampire Circus insisted on Synapse locking their release to Region A. And what did the UK get? A re-release of the DVD, but no BD. What's the point in that? If there's no UK release, then what sales would be lost if the Synapse disc was region-free? The BD scene is chaotic and nobody seems to be steering things in a clear direction. Re-releases of DVDs abound whilst ignoring high definition. Stupidity.

I still think people are reluctant to replace their DVD collections with alternative BD releases. The difference in quality between DVD and Blu-ray is not like the difference between VHS and DVD when everyone was glad to get rid of their snowy, fuzzy, worn out old tapes for the new digital format. That's not to say I'm not a fan of the Blu-ray format, because I am! I just think DVD is not going to die the death people think it will, as for every new BD release there is an alternative DVD release and it shows no sign of stopping.
