I've never been a big fan of Dr Terror, I much prefer the 70s Amicus anthology flicks (Tales from the Crypt, Asylum, etc).

It was the first anthology from Amicus so they ironed out any teething problems following this. Personally i think it's one of the better ones. Much better than The House that Dripped Blood and Torture Garden that followed a couple of years later.

Default amicus

dr terror is entertaining but tales from the crypt, the vault of horror and asylum are the best. Torture garden is/was also a kinky club night in london.

As well as the ones you mentioned, I'd include From Beyond The Grave among their best anthologies too.

Not the same era (nor anything to do with Amicus or their contemporaries) but Ealing Studios' Dead of Night is probably my favourite horror anthology.

I would "personally" rate the amicus anthologies as below 1 being favourite 7 being least favourite.

1. Vault of Horror
2. Tales from the crypt
3. The House That Dripped Blood
4. From Beyond the Grave
5. Asylum
6. Dr Terror
7. Torture Garden

But in the general term of Anthology including all ever made.

1. Dead of Night (1945)
2. Vault Of Horror
3.Tales from the crypt
4. Necronomicon (1993)
5. The House That Dripped Blood
6. Creepshow 2
7. Trick R Treat
8. From Beyond The Grave
9. Asylum
10. Two evil eyes
11. After Midnight
12. Creepshow
13. House on Terror Tract.

Now this again highlights how we are all different on here but at the same time very alike and an open minded friendly community.

Amicus productions Overall

1. Vault of Horror
2. Tales from the crypt.
3. House That Dripped Blood
4. The Beast Must Die
5. The Skull
6. Madhouse
7. From Beyond The Grave
8. And Now the screaming Starts
9. Dr Terror
10. Torture Garden
11. Deadly Bees
12. Scream & Scream Again

The Dr Terror steelie is great and I ordered mine direct from Odeon so have had it now about 10 days. I hope you all who ordered elsewhere don't get screwed by incompetant companies who have misjudged demand over stock level. It is usually wise (although yes I know expensive) to buy any Limited or "Must haves" direct from the distributer and only use Amazon, zavvi or other for standard releases. as Amazon Couriers and Zavvi in general are famous for buggering up nearly everything.

Asylum is my favourite anthology. Even if the film preceding it wasn't great, it'd be pretty high up my list simply for one of the best mad laughs ever put to film right at the very end of the movie. Gives me the willies every time.

Well, some bastard nicked my Debit card details, card cancelled and forgot to alter my Dr Terror steely order on Amazon, rather than give me the chance to change payment details they cancelled it pretending that it was their normal policy (it isn't) I've reordered but doubt it'll show.
