Default Weekly Comp - Arrow Threeway! - 10/07/2011 - FINISHED & SENT

Helloooo!

As I'm sure you all know these couple of week's have/will not only seen the release of one Arrow Video release but three. So, I thought sod it, lets go Arrow crazy with this week's comp and give a copy of all three away!

Here are each of the three films I'm yakking on about....

1)

“A TRUE CLASSIC AND ONE OF THE FUNNIEST MOVIES EVER.” – DVD VERDICT.

From the team that brought you “Airplane”, “Police Squad” and “The Naked Gun” comes the original pioneering laughter-fest that spawned countless comedy quotes, launched the careers of some of the funniest men in Hollywood and became the absolute must-see cult movie of its time. Now, the phenomenon that is The Kentucky Fried Movie is back, this time as a special two-disc DVD release featuring a host of extras, including a feature-length interview with its co-creators, the Zucker brothers, plus brand new artwork by artist Graham Humphreys (The Evil Dead; A Nightmare On Elm Street).

Written by Jim Abrahams and David and Jerry Zucker, and directed by John Landis (An American Werewolf In London; The Blues Brothers; Animal House), The Kentucky Fried Movie is a hilarious, non-stop, adults-only send up of everything from TV, advertising and current affairs to exploitation movies and sex. Regarded by the LA Times as “inspired… flawless… [and] very raunchy”, this cavalcade of puns, double entendres, slapstick and satire set the benchmark for every bad taste, gross-out, screwball comedy movie that would follow in its infamous footsteps.

Among the film’s many unforgettable highlights are the gratuitously sex-filled teaser for the teen exploitation romp “Catholic High School Girls In Trouble”, the scene stealing boom microphone in the chat show “High Adventure”, the genius word-play of “Courtroom” and the awe-inspiring kung fu mini-movie, “A Fistful Of Yen”.

Featuring guest appearances by Donald Sutherland (Don’t Look Now), Bill Bixby (The Incredible Hulk), Henry Gibson (The Blues Brothers), and “James Bond” star George Lazenby (On Her Majesty’s Secret Service) amongst others, The Kentucky Fried Movie is an unmissable treat for fans of quick-fire madcap comedy.

The Kentucky Fried Movie (cert. 18) will be released on DVD (£17.99) by Arrow Video on 4th July 2011.

Special Features
Audio commentary by director John Landis, writers Jerry Zucker, David Zucker and Jim Abrahams and producer Robert K. Weiss; “A Conversation With David and Jerry Zucker” – a feature length interview with the co-creators of “The Kentucky Fried Movie”, “Airplane” and “The Naked Gun” about their lives and career, from growing up and starting out in show business to their comedy influences; David and Jerry Zucker’s on-set Home Video shot during the making of the movie; behind-the-scenes photo gallery; widescreen 1.85:1 and full frame 1.33:1 presentation options; original mono audio; original trailer; optional Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish subtitles; four-panel reversible sleeve with original and newly commissioned artwork by Graham Humphreys; double-sided fold-out artwork poster; collector’s booklet featuring brand new writing on director John Landis by critic and author Calum Waddell.

2)

“A REDISCOVERED GEM… A MUST-OWN FOR FANS OF EIGHTIES SLASHERS.” – DREAD CENTRAL.

A gory guilty pleasure from the golden age of the slasher movie genre, Slaughter High comes to DVD completely uncut for the first time in the UK and featuring a host of Special Features that includes audio commentaries by co-writer/co-director Mark Ezra and the film’s star, legendary Scream Queen, Caroline Munro.

Co-directed by George Dugdale (Living Doll), Mark Ezra (House Swap; Savage Hearts) and Peter Litten (To Die For; Living Doll) and starring Munro (Maniac) alongside Emmerdale’s very own late Terry Woods, Billy Hartman (Highlander), the film utilises the classic “psycho takes revenge on his tormentors” theme to bring to the screen an amusing slew of inventive murders that includes graphic deaths by coathook, exploding intestines, cesspit, acid bath, javelin, lawnmower and a sex scene that can only be described as electrifying!

Years after a routine April Fool’s Day ritual humiliation of the school nerd ends in disaster for the victim, a group of former students of all-American Doddsville County High School return to their old seat of learning for a class reunion. Despite finding the building run-down and boarded up, they decide to go ahead with their planned night of celebrations anyway and break in to the property. But drunken merriment soon turns to terror when one of their number meets a gruesome and very painful end after drinking a spiked can of beer. Further unexpected horrors point to the presence of Marty, the teenage geek they mercilessly bullied all those years ago. Now, trapped in the dark, dank corridors of their old alma mater, the former students of Doddsville are forced to become this year’s April Fools as they face the horrific revenge of Slaughter High’s most original and gifted psycho killer.

Slaughter High (cert. 18) will be released on DVD (£15.99) by Arrow Video on 11th July 2011.

Special Features
Introduction by co-writer/co-director Mark Ezra; “Jesters And Jolts” - interview with Mark Ezra; “Lamb To The Slaughter: The Scream Queen Career Of Caroline Munro”; audio commentary by Mark Ezra moderated by “Teenage Wasteland” author J. A. Kerswell; audio commentary by Caroline Munro, “DVD World” editor Allan Bryce and author and critic Calum Waddell; trailer; collectors’ booklet featuring brand new writing on the film by author Troy Howarth, an interview with legendary composer Harry Manfredini by Calum Waddell and an interview with star Josephine Scandi by Justin Kerswell; reversible sleeve with original and newly commissioned artwork by Graham Humphreys; double-sided fold-out artwork poster.

3)

“AN IMMENSELY IMPORTANT CINEMATIC WORK… IT’S AS GOOD AND OFTEN BETTER THAN ANYTHING HITCHCOCK HAS EVER DONE.” – REX REED, NEW YORK DAILY NEWS.

Made between the commercially disappointing but critically acclaimed “Phantom Of The Paradise” and the huge international box office smash “Carrie”, Obsession is director Brian De Palma’s first true masterpiece. Inspired by and created as an homage to Hitchcock’s “Vertigo” (and containing additional references to “Dial M For Murder” and “Notorious”), the film has been hailed as “Eerie and haunting… unforgettable” (Liz Smith, Cosmopolitan) and as “exquisite entertainment” (Richard Schickel, Time Magazine). Now, this classic and visually sumptuous thriller is coming to Blu-ray, featuring a brand new high definition transfer of the film and a host of extras that include a perfect bound copy of Paul Schrader’s original script (detailing un-filmed sequences and a tripartite structure that deals with the past, present and future of protagonist Michael Courtland) and two of De Palma’s early short films, “Woton’s Wake” (1962) and “The Responsive Eye” (1966)
.

Michael Courtland is a Southern gentleman who seems to have everything – a successful business, a beautiful wife and an adoring young daughter – until a botched kidnapping tears his world apart leaving him widowed, bereaved and bereft. Years later on a trip to Italy, he meets a young woman, Sandra Portinari, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his late wife. Romance blooms and the couple returns to New Orleans with plans to get married. However, on the day of their wedding, history begins to repeat itself when Sandra is kidnapped and held for ransom, sending Michael spiralling into an all-too-familiar nightmare.

A master class in mounting unease and spine-chilling suspense, Obsession stars Oscar winning actor Cliff Robertson (Charly), Oscar nominated actress Genevieve Bujold (Anne Of The Thousand Days) and, in only his second feature performance, twice Oscar nominated and multi Golden Globe and Emmy award winning actor John Lithgow (Terms Of Endearment;Harry And The Hendersons (FTW!); Dexter; 3rd Rock From The Sun).

Obsession (cert. 12) will be released on Blu-ray (£19.99) by Arrow Video on 11th July 2011.

Special Features

Paul Schrader’s original screenplay of the film in a perfect bound booklet; “Obsession Revisited” featuring interviews with director Brian De Palma, stars Cliff Robertson and Genevieve Bujold and more!; early Brian De Palma short films “Woton’s Wake” (1962) and “The Responsive Eye” (1966)
; exclusive collector’s booklet featuring an essay on the film by critic and author Brad Stevens; original trailer; four panel reversible sleeve with original and newly commissioned artwork
; two sided fold out poster
; original LPCM Mono Audio and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio audio options; optional English subtitles for deaf and hearing impaired
.

But how will this work? Well, I'll split this week into three parts.

Monday - Wednesday = Kentucky Fried Movie comp

Wednesday - Friday = Slaughter High Comp

Friday - Sunday = Obsession Comp

There will be one winner for each of these mini-comps and I'll announce them before the start of the next one. The competitions will be pretty easy to enter so don't worry about that.

So, be sure to look here for all the info tomorrow!

Kyle

As an owner of the bargain bin edition of Kentucky Fried Movie, I'm intrigued to see how this new version compares.

To win Kentucky Fried Movie, simply come up with the most disgusting meal you can think off. Write it below and at the end of the mini-comp, the most vomit-enducing meal will win that person the film! Simple.

Oh and no pictures

The one that's served up in Salo - 120 days of sodom is about as bad as it gets (although I once ate a British Rail salad sandwich and I can still taste it!)
