Colony In Space. Written by Malcolm Hulke, this is still quite a relevant tale of stripmining and greed and blind obedience.
this is the diffenrence between old and new Who really, the writers had their own bugbears (ecology, workers rights etc) and worked them into the scripts with a deft touch (mostly, The Sunmakers cough cough) whereas the new writers are merely hacks writing to a formula, though i shouldn't complain as no doubt this US redo will make them look like Joyce

AAAnyway.

Pertwee, Delgado (and Helen Worth!!) what's not to like??

So, with the full stories that still exist that have not been announced for release...

...what do people think will be the last of the classic releases on DVD?

A few years ago, because of it's classic nature, I would have put large amounts of money on 'The Deadly Assassin' being the final release. And then they went and released it!

A few months ago, because of it's title, I would have put large amounts of money of 'The Greatest Show in the Galaxy' being the final release. And then they announce the release date for July!!

Now, I think I am leaning towards 'Terror of the Zygons' being the final release

Second. A classic story to end a classic range.
God, i'm so far behind! :embarassed:

I think Terror of the Zygons will be released to coincide with their upcoming appearance in the spring.;)

The last release may well be a reconstructed Tenth Planet or Ice Warriors.

RedEyeTheCylon 11th May 2012 04:40 PM

I'd say Tenth Planet with an animated version of episode 4. Hopefully animation techniques will become more cost effective in future which would allow them animate the likes of Power of the Daleks and Web of Fear.

Blu-ray releases of the two Cushing Dalek movies would also be very nice.

I'm reading the new edition of the Target Tenth Planet novel at the mo'. Great stuff.

Animated episodes of missing adventures would be a dream come true ( apart from finding the originals somewhere that is  )

Remaking some of the missing stories with Matt Smith would be nice as in some ways he's quite simillar to Patrick Troughton.

The Web of Fear would make a terrific two parter.

Well, there are rumours about a certain monster from the Troughton era making an appearance in the new series... ;)

Stolen from Peter McKinstrys (Regulare designer for the series) blog.

Mojo 11th May 2012 07:25 PM

It has been rumoured, but like a lot of those it could turn out to be a load of shite.

What I want to know is, how true are the Zygon rumours ? ...

Demdike@Cult Labs 11th May 2012 07:42 PM

After a bit of snooping i found out the Yeti were mentioned as being in the last Christmas special.

However the illustration was for a dvd special feature not a new episode.

Quote - McKinstry says ‘sorry to spoil the fun here but its an illustration for the dvd files magazine, nothing to do with the xmas episode.’

It would be great if they did that in the run up to the 50th anniversary
Most of the missing Troughton episodes wouldn't need much adapting, can just imagine Evil of the Daleks with civil war between the Paradigm and RTD era Daleks.

Whilst on the subject of remakes, has anyone got around to watching the first part of the Power of the Daleks one?:

It's actually pretty good for a fan production.

It was meh. I Tweeted about it during it's initial broadcast at DWO.

Just managed to pick up the Tom Baker era Meglos for pennies. I don't remember this one (although I must of watched it when it was transmitted in 1980). Is it a good one? It looks worth watching just to see Tom Baker turn into a cactus!

It's fun, but it's not regarded as being one of the best Tom Baker stories

Its watchable....just about.

It would have been more suited to a 45 min single episode imo.

Looks like Inferno is going to get a Revisitations release next year:

Quote from Steve Roberts: "We announced today at Utopia 2012 that we are revisiting Inferno for a 2013 release, utilising a combination of film recordings and RSC colour."

But 'Inferno' already has a pretty good, two disc release

Can't help thinking we are being given a bit of a raw deal with the 'Revisitation' things. Although the new extra features are as wonderful as ever, it does seem a bit of a cheek to expect fans to spend money on stories that they probably already have.

It seems that the producers of the DVD's have come to the conclusion that fans of 'Doctor Who' are like fans of 'Rocky Horror' - they will buy any old rubbish that comes out containing the name!

And yes, if 'Inferno' is re-released, I will end up getting on the first day because I am a mug/fan*

*Delete as appropriate

To tell the truth, I'm even more confused now!

Interesting to see what they do with this. Inferno is an absolute classic.

Demdike@Cult Labs 14th May 2012 11:26 AM

I think stories are being re-released because they thought they could release discs right up until the 50th anniversary next November.

However some remasters/rebuilds are taking much longer than first anticipated, so i think the re-issues are just to fill in gap months.

I certainly won't be buying Inferno again. Its not actually a favourite of mine.

loved the comm for Colony In Space where they say "...There is only ONE Master...."

I haven't disliked any of the Master's yet.

All have their pro's and cons.

I think my favourite is Anthony Ainley purely down to his performance in Survival, oh, and i've met him.

Score! Spotted his name in the cast list of a film i watched recently, and mused to myself "bet he's the villian" and i was right!!

They just needed to think ahead then. Within the last year or so, we have had 8 box sets released:

Mara Tales - 'Kinda' & 'Snakedance'
Earth Story - 'The Gunfighters' & 'The Awakening'
U.N.I.T Files - 'Invasion of the Dinosaurs' & 'The Android Invasion'
Ace Adventures - 'Dragonfire' & 'The Happiness Patrol'

all of which could have been split, with the stories being released as single entities

Agreed.

Kinda and Snakedance belong together, the rest are just pointless collections really.

That wouldn't have been Assault would it?

RedEyeTheCylon 14th May 2012 01:55 PM

The main reason for the Revistation of Inferno is that they want to improve the picture quality. The quality on the current version does look quite poor when you compare it to the other Pertwee releases.

It could potentially be paired with The Mind of Evil seeing as both were written by Don Houghton.

Trailer for the Death to the Daleks DVD has now been released:
Doctor Who: Death To The Daleks DVD Trailer - YouTube

Very excited for this now although it's a shame it hasn't been given the special edition treatment like Day of the Daleks was.

Criterion7 15th May 2012 06:38 PM

Just sat through Time and the Rani. Not the best of even one of the better stories from Doctor Who but not as bad as I remembered it. I think Mel would have worked as a companion to Colin but really didn't work well with McCoy.
The features included definitely made it worthwhile.
I have the New Beginnings boxset and The Deadly Assasin on the way. I'm ordering the bred for war boxset tomorrow and want to get another inexpensive boxset with it from Amazon. Suggestions would be appreciated.
Picked up the latest Doctor Who mag with Ace on the cover. It has an interview with her and a look back at the keys of time series. Definitely worth picking up!
