Reading about people rediscovering the original series got me to go by my 28th Doctor Who dvd. One I anxiously awaited The Krotons. Theres a 52 minute featurette on Troughtons entire run on the series. Amazing and worth the money for that alone.

Demoncrat 12th July 2012 09:32 AM

Rewatched City of Death, it always makes me wonder why did they dress Ward in a series of childlike outfits?

Susan Foreman 12th July 2012 12:48 PM

It's been confirmed that Tom Baker will definately be returning for the 50th anniversary

Tom Baker will return for Doctor Who's 50th anniversary after all | Blastr

Believe it when I see it!

Criterion7 12th July 2012 08:27 PM

On the 2nd Doctor documentary on the Krotons it was mentioned that they'd recently found another episode of Troughton. Does anyone remember which episode it was?

I believe it was an episode of The Underwater Menace. Unfortunately :D

Oops - Red Eye got there before me!

Thanks for some reason I thought is was Enemy at the end of the World
With only one episode left to find they could animate and release it with some decent features.

I've made a little mistake here, the new Argos catalogue is actually out on July 21st (a week tomorrow) so the talking Daleks should be available in store from then.

BBC R4xtra are currently playing the ace Selected Radiophonic Works retrospective, includes the 1971 doc and the creepy The Dreams, repeated at 19.00 GMT and it should be on the iplayer for the usual week....

The Claws of Axos: Special Edition is now up for pre-order on Amazon, looks like it's a definite October release:

Just listened to The Sarah Jane Adventures -The 13th Stone on BBC4 Extra. It was a diverting hour but not as good as the Doctor Who novelisations.

Doctor Who: The Daemons

Doctor Who: The Daemons

Claws Of Axos has its critics, but it's one of my favourite Pertwee stories.

Glad you liked it Vic! The first episode needed more restoration work, which is why it isn't quite as good as the remaining four. Mind you, if you watch the previous video release of episode 1 ( included as an extra on the dvd ) you'll see what an improvement it is.

Classic Who!

Did anyone manage to pick up any of the talking Daleks from Argos today? Lots of new pictures appearing online and they all look excellent, particularly the Invasion Earth and Power versions. There are a couple of reviews on Youtube showing the speech functions, seems like they haven't used voice clips from the original episodes which is a shame:

How much are they if you don't mind me asking?

Are they the same size as the action figures?

Yeah they're the same size as the figures, they're £14.99 each in Argos at the moment. They're slightly cheaper on ForbiddenPlanet.com at £13.49 each but they're not getting them in until next month and I'm not sure if that price includes postage.

Just to let you guy's know, i'm heading into Manchester on Tuesday so will pick up issues 1 and 2 (3?) of the DW/ST:TNG crossover and will have a review of them up by the end of next week. I suffer so you dont have to!

I must admit, as excited as I was at first, the more I think about it the worse I feel it's going to turn out. Oh well, never judge until tried.

Susan Foreman 24th July 2012 05:25 AM

According to a rumour going around the BBC, we could be getting a special treat for the 50th anniversary - a docu-drama about the origins and creation of the show

50th Anniversary Doctor Who Docu-drama in the Works?

Hawkmonger 24th July 2012 07:26 AM

Update on the comic review guy's. When I dropped in yesterday they had soled out of issue 1, so it went against my moral of never starting a series without issue 1...............also............I saw some art in issue 3.
The bulk of the series is drawn by JK Woodward who's painted style is fairly similer to John Burns. So I like it. But the third issue features a flash back to when the fourth Doctor teamed up with the crew of the original enterprise (Kirk, Spock and he rest). Although this would obviesly be far more campy, it was going to be the highlight for me. Then I saw the art was by The Sharp Brother's............and it's bloody awful!
So sorry lad's, review will have to wait till a collected edition materialises, like it will.

No - after a sonic screwdriver session, my situations are ALWAYS sticky!

Seriously, I think that the introduction of the 'sonic screwdriver' in nu-ho was a bad decision. a Deus ex machina to get the character out of any sticky situation

Hey - 10:20am, and it's the vodka taking. Does anyone want to save me from alcoholic-induced ramblings?

well, i don't know if this will help but I always smile when listening to the comms on the dvds post return, as the same quibble comes up again & again that the sonic screwdriver is indeed a "get out of jail free card", robbing the stories of any depth. As i've been showing a mate The Key To Time arc, there's quite a marked difference to the story structure, yes Baker uses the SS, but the thing hardly features, as he relies on his wits and intelligence to outwit his foes....I could make some point about the overreliance on technology today helping create a generation incapable of making their own fire, shelter etc but then I'l pontificate at the drop of a hat
