I must say, I think the NOTD Pre-Cert cover is a bit bland, i prefer the '90s VIPCO cover, at least it had something happening on it.

I think my preference for the Iver cover comes from when I was a lad looking through all the gruesome horrors in my local video shop. I kept asking my parents to get Night of the Demon as the cover promised so much but tantalisingly gave away nothing, leaving it all to my imagination - what could be so horrific that they couldn't show anything on the cover!!
They did get it one day, my mum thinking it was the old Jacques Tourneur classic she had seen and loved as a child (although she must have got a shock when she realised it wasn't, my mum loved the old nasties anyway), but I didn't get to see it myself until after the nasties debacle when black market sellers sold them at markets.
This is a strange film, in that it seems to have been released with no posters or artwork. This was in 1980 so was on the end of drive-in double bills and the beginning of obscurities being released straight to video, making me think it must have been intended for cinema release.
It also seems to be impossible to find any rights holder, does anyone know the history or current state of this?

Rights-wise it seems to still be a mystery. There's no official uncut DVD release anywhere at the moment and a website was even set up a while ago calling for it to be released.

The full version was last given a UK submission for video in 1994 by Vipco and cut by 1 min 41 secs by the BBFC. For DVD Vipco simply re-released the same cut print rather than resubmit the full one alas. It was last shown uncut on the Zone Horror channel (a VHS print was used) and any BBFC submission would certainly result in the cuts being fully waived today.
