TV Spin Offs-Steptoe and Son Ride Again (1973)
I never get bored of watching the tv series or the films, both of which i consider superior tv film tie ins.In the 2nd film Galton and Simpson have managed to pack alot of story into a hour and half of film, and as usual both lead actors are suberb with great supporting cast a whos who of 70s tv and film,Milo O'Shea,Neil McCarthy,Bill Maynard ,Yootha Joyce ,Geoffrey Bayldon ,Frank Thornton and Diana Dors,is it just me or does she look very hot in this film The Steptoes have retired their horse - because the horse is lame, after having to pull the cart (and Harold) home from York, after the horse walked into the back of a removal van which then drove off - and plan to buy a new one with Albert's life savings of £80, putting £9 away for "emergencies". Albert is forced to go home, Harold returns several hours later drunk and introduces Hercules the Second, a blind racing greyhound. Harold reveals to Albert that he has borrowed £200 from local gangster and loan shark Frankie Barrow to buy the dog and plans to pay a small fortune to keep it fed on egg and steak. Been watching season 7 of Family Guy. The opening of episode "It takes a village idiot and i married one" was so funny and so, so wrong, i was cringing and roaring with laughter at the same time as Peter sat down on Quagmire's sofa. Here's what happens according to wikipedia. "It Takes a Village Idiot, and I Married One", the Griffin family vacation at Quagmire's cabin although Lois warns the kids not to touch anything until she has a chance to disinfect everything. When Peter sits on the couch, he finds it's rigged to knock someone unconscious and strip their clothing, flipping their bodies into various positions for sex. When the stirrups come out out and spread his legs - |

Steptoe and Son Ride Again was very entertaining, a great spin-off for a masterful comedy.

That scene in SASRA when a drunken Harold is hit in the face and knocked out cold by a Pickfords furniture removal van door splits my sides everytime. Great impact sound FX too! Quote:

TV spin offs-On the Buses (1971)
On the Buses (1971). Possibly the greatest film Hammer ever made, starring the George Clooney of his day REg Varney. The humour of the tv series was'nt exactly sophisticated even at the time, and some of the racial stereotypes are alittle embarassing, then again Jim Davidson made whole career on stuff like that.Saying that the films were a vast improvement over the tv series, and even benefited from a hour and half format, they never out stayed there welcome, and were directed fairly well by Harry Booth on the first two films.Lets be honest they were never gonna win any awards (apart being the top grossing film in the uk in 1971),but if you like middle aged men chasing ladies in tight jumpers, and a fetish for buses then its the films for you. |

As cheesy as it is, I adore On The Buses to the point where I've stayed up till 3 in the morning to catch the tv series on ITV3 since it's been on. I have all three of the films on video which I still watch now and then. IMO the best character had to be Arthur Rudge played by the great Michael Robbins. His put downs to Olive were brilliant. A nod has to go to Inspector Blake, who manged to get it from Stan and Jack in every episode.
